Default What is best for 3d: 22x8, 23x8 or 22x10 on 50cc sd yak?

I have a choice between:

CF 23x8
Wooden 23x8
Wooden 23x10
Wooden 22X10

Which of these prop sizes would provide the best performance for 3d flying a 50cc sd yak (30%) ?

Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention the engine is a DA-50.

Also, a guy today tried the 22x10 and told me it needed more thrust and thought the 23x8 would provide more thrust (he said he was using 3/4th to full throttle to keep it in a hover close to ground). It seems he was struggling with the 22x10 prop. The weaher was calm with almost zero winds.

On DA50, consensus is a 23x8 prop. 22x10 performs well, but not as good as the 23x8. 22x8 is too small. Lots of noise without the punch.

for me and 3d it's a Xoar Laminate 22-8 on a BME 58 or a DLE55.23-8 provides more thrust ,BUT lacks the fast spool up i need when your in a hover.also when your in the 50cc engine class i think the 23-8 is over prop for a 50,just to slow of spool up.

I would like to add the VESS 23A as a fourth option.

The Top flight props are very safe when stirring paint............Try a Vess 23a, Zoar wood 23X8, Menz 23X8 or Bolly wood 23X8. The carbon props spool too slow for 3D

If you choose wood, and possibly the lightest you can get in order to obtain best spool-up, the price you pay is broken prop bolts, unless you check your screw torques often, or increase the prop clamping faces. (possibly both!)

I think people are missing the fact that prop brand makes a big diff. a 22x8 can vary greatly in how it flies your plane, one cannot label all 22x8 wood, as such and such, its completely wrong.

I've run into similar issues with choosing a prop for an Extreme Flight Yak 88 that was around 18lb powered by a DL-50. The best result I got was from a Vess 23B. The CF ones took too long to spool but flew faster where the 23x8 range props seemed to be a good compromise between speed and torque. But for really pulling out of a hover, none gave me the performance that I wanted. It may be better to either try and loose some weight and/or step up to a canister or more powerful motor. The same Yak on a canister and Xoar 23x8 was a significant improvement over the pipe and 23B prop but still not close to 30cc or 100cc class pull-out.

I also like the Vess 22A in this type of set up. If you're still struggling pulling out of the hover with yours, consider putting your plane on a diet. Example, going with Li Ion batteries instead of A123, reducing tank size are quick fixes. That will make more dramatic impact than going with another brand prop of same size.

A stock 22x8 TF prop isn't enough for a 50cc engine. They are a thin prop and will flex. But a 24x8 TF cut down to 22.5x8 makes one heck of a prop. That way you get some serious wide blade prop action out at the end where it will put more air over the ailerons.
I think NX 23x8 is the best out of the box prop. Not as thick as a Xoar for better spool up.

Try an MSC 22x8. It's got bigger paddles than most 22x8's. It's my favorite 3D prop. Made of hard rock maple. The prop wash is amazingly better than other 22x8's out there. It'll turn a few hundred less RPM but that's ok. Low to mid range thrust is amazing. That's where I need it.

When they release them to the market get a Faclon carbon 23x9

Amazing prop. Spins up faster than any wood prop I tried and yanks it out of a hover.

i like the mejzlik 23x8...biela props arent bad either, ....but dont use it as a "breakin prop....from my expereince, it seemed like to much of a load. I used a 22x8 xoar to break mine in, and had to swap out to a larger prop to keep the engine revving over7k....

22x10 is a good over all prop, especially for imac style aerobatics

ive used XOAR, Bolly wood, vess, menz,jc super props, menz, albatross, moki zinger a some that i cant remember and they all did good with the exception of the zinger, and from the other group the menz s props
