Float Plane
The wife and I have recently purchased a house on a lake. I'm thinking about getting a float plane.
There's not a whole lot to choose from though, is there?
I want a big plane....... 50cc at least, preferably 100cc. Does anyone know of a good flying, BIG float plane?
I'd like to do more than just fly around in circles, take-off, and land. I'd like it to be a good flying, aerobatic plane.
Anyone know of such a plane?
Thanks, Jim

RE: Float Plane
unfortunatly for you, the things that make an airplane a good aerobatic plane dont necessarly make it a good float plane. It need to be tough and forgiving, and you need a boat to go get it once and a while. A GP giant stick makes a great float plane, and they are alot of fun also. Any stick plane with a flat symetrical airfoil makes a good plane. The GP giant stick will handle a 50cc gas engine, or even a 30 for that matter. The one is this photo is two years old. its on floats during the winter, and ski in the winter

Jim,
You need a 1/4 scale Sig Cub. It's big. It can be aerobatic. The 1/4 scale would fly great with a DLE20 or a Zenoah G20
oh, and one more thing............ the floats are already built and glassed. I'll ship em to ya for $75. Or meet you in Longmont at Hwy 66 for $50.

Start out with a smaller model and get used to the difference if you haven't flown floats. There are lots of 4*60 type arfs and lot's of float suppliers.
Start with small electric even.
Are there neighbours.? Are they going to be happy?? If not...electric!!
Just a note. I live by a lake. I have a pellet gun for "noise"!

RE: Float Plane
Thanks for the replies.
So far I'm thinking maybe a big Cub or Beaver.
There's not a whole lot to choose from though. I'd like an ARF and I'd like the float set up to be designed into the plane. I don't want to have to figure out the installation of the floats.
I'd prefer something bigger than 1/4 scale. What big Cubs or Beavers are there in ARF kits?
Thanks, Jim

I'll never get rid of these darn floats. []
World Models sells a 1/3 scale Super Cub. They say 80cc, but at our altitude I'm sure you'd want a 100cc engine.

RE: Float Plane
Just came across this video of the World Models Cub on floats. Looks like it flys good. I might have to look into that one some more.
