Default 100cc newbie questions

Just picked up a (new to me) Aeroworks Extra 300 35%. I have wanted one of these for a long time and was about to settle for the 50cc size because of the cost. Then I found someone selling his to go to something smaller. I bought the airframe and just traded for a DA100. Now for the servos, I've got several hitec 5645's that I have used in my 50cc planes, but these are a little shy of the torque that Aeroworks recommends, they say 180 oz. torque servos for the control surfaces. The 5645 puts out 168oz. @ 6 volts. Would this be enough doing IMAC style flying?

And no, I'm not trying to be a cheapskate with a large scale plane, I'm just wondering if I can fly safely with the servos that I already have.

They are a little lacking for a 100cc aerobat. Step up to some HS7955s for the elevator and ailerons and a HS-7950 or HS-7980 for the rudder and you will be much
happier in the long run.

Not only are they lacking in power but in speed as well. IMO an airplane this size should have servos rated at 200+ oz and a speed of .16 or less.

common misconception...

IMAC flying is harder on servos than 3D... continuous loads at speed, need to hold perfectly, need to center to the same place each time...

Obviously you need the right servo for the airframe... but just a heads up....

and yes, I would look at investing in higher torque servos....

HS-7955's, 7950's etc if staying with Hitec.
S9156, s9157 from Futaba are great options too..

What do you think about Futaba 9152's ? They have 278 oz. at 6.0 volts. The reason I ask is I have 2 of these already. Thanks

Its the batts that need to deliver too, makes sure switches and batteries/connectors can actually deliver when all servos are under moderate or heavy load. I dont fly 100cc, its just collected info being past along...

I have the 9152´s on the rudder, they work great. not recomended for the rest of the plane since they are bigger and you would have to open all servo bays for them to fit. This is easier done for the rudder, great choice for that. For the rest of the plane´s surfaces I have the 9156s.

I have 6 Futaba BLS451 servos in another plane and these are ultra fast servos, just not sure if they will have enough torque. Before I go out to get 6 hitec 7955's, tell me if you think the BLS451's might work. thanks

for a 100cc airframe?

while the BLS451 are excellent servos, they may not be the best match for that size airframe..

S9156, S9157
BLS155 or greater...etc

+1 on the HS7955TG for that size plane.

Sorry to keep asking, but I have a friend who is selling a set of JR8611a servos that he had in a carden yak. These servos are rated at 320 oz. torque with 6 volts. The speed is good. I have always run futaba equipment, but from what I can read, a lot of guys are using the 8611a servos in 35% machines. I have never owned a JR servo, so I have no first hand experience. Let me know what you think of these in the 35% Aeroworks Extra. Thanks

8611s will also get the job done very nicely, I have run these in my 40% Carden and a 3.3 C/A Yak with no problems.

8611's are good servos but be prepared to periodically remove them and send them in for repair. They have a solid history of chewing up gear sets. The Hitec 7955's are good servos but not as precise in centering as some would prefer. The upper end Futaba servos are some of the best available but some people become fearful because they don't have metal gears in some cases. No reason to, but they get hung up on things they know little about. Airtronics also makes superb precision servos in the upper price brackets.

7955 are great 7954 is even better but pricier.... i cant say much about futaba servos... i only use their budget servos for my 40 sized glow stuff....JR servos seem to have some of the smoothest gear trains ive seen(8611, 8711) but they develop slop rather quickly

I had 8611a servos on my 50cc Laser and no noticable gear play ( At least no more then when new ) after 300+ flights. I did set everything up with 1" servo arms though.
