It's not going to fly this weekend. It's almost ready but Hangtimes sent the wrong extensions. I still have to balance, program, route extensions from Smartfly out to wings. I still need to charge these batteries but I have a few questions about balancing them. They have 3 leads coming from each battery. I take it one is for charging and one is for balancing??

The Cerntral CF pushrod setup will wirk good. CF is conductive but will not transmit RF.

Joe the three wire is your balance tab and the two wire is your charging tab.

What extension do you need? I may have some.

Thanks anyway Kevin, it's still not quite ready. I have to go through it and double check some things. I don't want to rush it since this is my first time putting one together this big. There is 25mph plus winds today, not going to be much flying. I'm still going out to the Ga Jets today to meet with a Director. All new members have to go through an orientation before they can fly alone. I'm still renewing my membership with The CD's.

You really need to consider joining The Ga Jets. They have an unbelievably nice facility.

It's not quite ready, but here's a test fit in my small trailer. It's tight but it's in there!

List of things to complete the plane;

run wing extensions from SF board out of fuse
secure wires in fuse
choke control
mount failsafe switch
secure vent line to bottom of fuse
vibration damper of some kind, on cowl and canopy
do something about fuel dot ( can not pull fuel line off ) Grind down barb some?
re-center servos and lock tite or silicone servo arm screws
lock tite tail wheel collars
ca glue nuts on flying wires
set control throws ( measured in degrees, need a tool for that)
re-check balance
zip tie on fuel line at carb
initial charge on ignition and rx batteries
run engine and adjust throttle

Great list!! I see lots of these missed on a regular basis. As far as the fuel dot goes, the tygon line will soften some once exposed to gas but what I do to make life a little easier is to put the plug on the line and then heat up with a heat gun. This allows the tube to stretch and take a set.

Here are some shots of the finished product. I had to mount the failsafe pin switch in the turtledeck. The maiden should be this weekend.

Davidgeorge or anyone,

What did you do to secure your servo arm screws? lock tite or a dab of silicone on top of the screw? I really do not want to use lock tite.

Thanks

The maiden happened. The plane flies great! No aileron trim was needed at all. It needed about 3 clicks of up elevator. It can land like a duck with sore feet. The roll rate is amazing. It makes you look like a better pilot than what you are

Hi from the UK..

I have a Moki 215cc radial which I reckon would fit.
Would sound fabulous too.

Problem is it weighs 11lb including silencer.

Any thoughts if it would be a good idea or a heavy dog to fly ??!!

Regards

Steve,

I think it would be too much. Thats over twice the weight of a DA 120. There is a thread on FG and one guy was using a Moki 150.You're right though, it would sound great.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice re the MOKI 215.

Guess I will need to keep looking for an airframe !
I need something preferably under the 20kg limit here in the UK, that's why the Beast was attractive.

Most warbirds will probably be above 20kg with that moter - I could always dig deep and buy the smaller MOKI 150 !!!!

I have the mufflers on and the cowl cut. These are the after market (cheap) mufflers and they barely clear the cowl but they do clear it. Does this look like it's going to work?

Thanks
The mufflers look like they will work fine. You don't have to clear the cowl by much. I would however suggest changing your throttle linkage. If it were my airplane, I would install a nice CF pushrod with ball links at each end.

Just for the record, you were right about the throttle linkage. I did change it out with a CF rod and its much better. The idle was changing all the time with the nyrod.
