I have to agree with you - I picked up their 50cc SBach 342, and it's a SUPER good looking plane, and flies super too!!

I'm still working on my 30cc Sbash and yes in many ways this line of kits are top notch.

I found where they let themselves down was with small things like pin hinge and control horn quality.
But, and it is a big BUT, for the price and quality of the kits (I have the Green 30cc Sbach, and HAD the small .55 sized yak54), even with the upgrades on the area that personally I felt was required, it is still a much more cost effective option than a lot of other model kits out there!
(a guy at my club was so taken with my Sbach that he rushed out and brought his own exact one!)

Nice plane and great video.
As for components, I can't speak for the component selection on the 50cc option as I don't have one (though I'd love that specific MXS-R you have). With the 30cc kit I have, the pin hinges were just not nice, and I was not a fan of the idea behind the aileron and elevator just having screws into the wood in the wing (not even right through the wing), and that does not even take into account the fact mine didn't even come with enough horns or rods to do the elevators as a twin servo option.
But like I said above, it was a 'personal' choice to swap out the pin hinges and horns/rods, I've seen videos where a guy fly's the same exact plane as mine with the factory horns and using the wooden elevator joiner without issue, I just wanted mine setup in a specific way, which after I spent the extra $20, left me still extremely happy with the quality of model I got for my money.
Oddly enough my only real bug bare with the entire kit was that mine was missing the large "Sbach 324" sticker's that goes on the main wing, but as a guy I know brought the same kit, I photo copied his and used it as a template to cut the sticker from self adhesive 'sign writers' vinyl and just made my own as it looked naked without it in my eyes (the big one on the left wing). Also allowed me to fix the 'thuderbolt' stickers to correctly read 'thunderbolt' at the same time, all the while allowing me to enjoy myself 'tinkering' on it!

I finally got around to finishing up my MXS-R 50cc conversion. Overall I'm pretty happy with the plane quality is pretty good and the cost is amazing.
The cowl fiberglass and paint work are the worst of it but I'm pretty picky... hardware was nicer than expected.

I'm running the Eflite power 360 with a 24x12 prop, Castle 160 HV, Savox serovs all the way around... she is 19.5 pounds loaded with 12s 65c 5000 mah packs and the balance looks good

Just have to get her out when the weather breaks for the maiden, keep you posted

Ron

I emailed RCJETSWORLD about the covering on Fly Model Planes and this is the response that I got: It is local brand made in China. We carry many colors of them and you can order from us directly. It is $10 per roll (~2x6m), and $6 shipping per 3 rolls (shipping same for 1, 2 or 3 rolls).

It was nice to know that they have covering for the models if needed. How is this Chinese covering? I have only used Monocote and Ultracote.

The covering on my Sbach is holding up well and no problems with wrinkles - quick touch with the iron and they are gone.

Bought one of these to challenge myself with a "no name brand" build...This will be fun!!! My goal is to build this with all the less expensive alternatives that my local guys have been using. Mind you, I fly my Turbine as an everyday flyer, love 50CC, but keep getting told I am wasting money on name brand stuff. SO, I got this on sale, going to use all HobbyKing stuff/servos/wires/switches. The only thing name brand will be a Futaba rx. I want to keep atleast radio issues out of the equation and see if these low cost, high torque servos are all they are. my local guys have been building things with no issues and saving tons of cash. This is an experiment for me.

No bashing, no name calling, no haters. I know what I'm getting myself into and the risk. Trust me, I spent 2 days reviewing $10 servos....LOL I feel that if I spent over $20 I might as well go Hitech! HAHAHHAHAHHA

All good and fun guys! Lets see!

Heck, so far the 3 blade prop costs more than all my servos!!! I may maiden with a wood 2 blade "just in case"

Ok,

What I enjoyed so far...

The kit is fairly nice. Really impressed with the hinge points that are pre-drilled and ready to go. Even the covering is trimmed nice and neat. This I enjoyed. I got to move nicely along with the hinging. Turned out good. As I moved along to the hardware, that's where things got interesting. It seemed to be missing some 60mm links for control surfaces and many nuts/screws for the ball links as well. Seemed like I was missing a whole hardware package. Not really a problem. One phone call and he offered to take care of it. Impressive customer service if you ask me.

Next to the cowl and engine box. I thinned some epoxy and re-enforced all that I could. Coating everything nice and neatly to firm things up a little. I mean this plane is light. I never weighed it, but wow! I am not a 3D guy, but if I was....MAN!

The firwall itself seems to be built nice and sturdy. I didn't see any issues other than a little here and there with a few face to face connections. I don't get upset at this kind of stuff since it "IS" a hobby and I like to tweak a little bit. NOT HOURS, but a little is ok. All I did in some areas was add extra stock and harden things up around it. So far so good.

As you can see in the pics, the stock stand offs put the hub about 13mm or so too far out. I didn't want to cut the firewall so I got some OS 2" stand offs and used spacers that came with the kit. This worked perfect for me. The only issue was when the engine moved back, my stock muffler wouldn't fit and was about 30mm too high to squeeze in what little space I had left to work with. So I looked around and ordered a Bennet muffler wich came in and ended up being a perfect fit.

Weather sux, so I am in no hurry to get her in the air. I need to mount the new muffler, cowl and set CG and throws.....then she is ready. Because I got nervous at the last minute, I changed the throttle servo to Hitec, and all else will stay Turnigy's. I used all HK Heavy duty extensions, switches, arms, ect. The only thing I will use that I know has been good to me is the 6014 rx, NOBS NIMH 6.0 packs and my 14SG. Mechanically she is set perfect and there is no binding on any control surfaces or electronics. This will eliminate blame to my electronic failures due to binding or mechanical alignment issues. I am just so curious to see if these electronics are good for the sport flyer. I don't 3D but I do like to rip the wings off occasionally. just sayin

There are just too many people out there using them without issues. SO I need to find out for myself

Anyhow, this has been fun. so far I am honestly impressed. Not bad for the money in right now...not bad at all.

Yeah, on my 50cc SBach, the motor was too far out as well. I was going to use my trusty DLE55, but then measured the other motor I had, a RCCR 55 Twin, and it was just right, so went with that instead. Good thing I did, because the plane builds tailheavy, so I needed the extra weight of the twin to make it right. I think they may have had the DLE60 in mind when designing this plane, as it would have been perfect.

Updates? I have one of these to put together. I have an SV 50 cc twin or a turnigy TR-55. Not sure which to use. The turnigy will have 1 more horsepower, give or take. But do I need that much? These things seem pretty light for their size. Also, what size spinner are you guys using?

thanks,
Dennis

Will a DLE 55RA fit on this firewall?
