Here is a video of my second CRRC55 start up, https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=xoFIt-OWZPE .
And here is a video of the little Pitts maiden, https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...&v=tcOCjEHBDgM . Keep in mind my maiden consist of just getting it trimmed and down safely. Then sit down until I lose the shakes.

Do any of you guys know or have both to compare the struts of the Great Planes Christen Eagle & the Great Planes Pitts are they the same or different? I have made molds for the canopies for both planes, wheel pants, cowls, but I have only the mold for the Pitts struts and was wondering if they are the same.

You have a spare canopy? Was thinking of making mine a Single Place Eagle and would want another Canopy to cut, as far as the Cabanes....they are the same. "Stamped Aluminum Struts"

I was asking about the fiberglass wing struts, but that's also nice to know the Aluminum center Cabanes are the same .. Yes I have all the parts. I make them from molds I made from all the originals. I sell them all the time. Lots of guys have these planes and need replacement parts. The Canopies are Vac u formed with .030" or .040" petg or lexan. They are unpainted as are the fiberglass cowls and wheel pants.

Do you think you could make a single place canopy if I sent you a side view of what I want?

I can make anything that you dream up. I have to make a plug. Then vacuform the canopy. Let's take a look at what you have. Or should I say take a look at what you want.

Anyone out there still flying a GP Eagle 1/3 scale? Just put mine away for the winter (moving next month) and checked the log.....300+ flights and still looks new! No problem with the center cabanes or wear on the tail wires.....running a Saito 300 on glow (my last glow engine) can't believe the plane still looks new!

Is it the single or dual carb? is it on cdi ignition? I'm building one now can't wait to fly her.

I've made plugs for the Canopy and reproduced it. I also made all molds of the fiberglass parts.I've got the landing gear and Cabane also.

I'll need a couple dimensions from the original if you've got yours handy and can help out let me know.

CaptRKO,
I have the GP Pitts which I believe is pretty similar to your Eagle. You're right, they are great flyers and mine has also held together pretty well. I also have a Saito 300 in mine and have just bought a CH ignition conversion for it and I'll convert it over the winter.
Frequent Flyer…what do you charge for a new canopy?

Thanks,
paul

Mine has held up pretty well. I'm the second owner, the first engine it had was also the Saito 300. Not it's running on an OS 1.60 which is enough but by no means unlimited. Everything is holding together with somewhere over 150 flights. I do spend a good bit of time on preventive maintenance and most of the time it all stays put together. I love this airplane, it reminds me of why I like bipes so well.

You know its funny.........I do an "annual" inspection on my airplanes every year.....take everything apart and inspect, replace screws and hardware that looks worn, I guess that is why my planes last?

I have another Eagle NIB that I have in reserve......surprised that no one offers a large scale Christen Eagle and the moment....would love to see one 100C or bigger!

I have about fifty flights on mine, and no problems with structure and it also still looks near new, with minor hanger damage that is repaired. My engine is a DA 50cc. Enjoy flying it yearly and it puts on quite a nice show with the smoke on.

I finally finished my GP Christen Eagle II that I goight NIB at an estate sales a few years ago. I bought an old GP Patty Wagstaff Extra that had a DA50 in it. I bought specifically for the DA to put in the CE. But I flew the Extra until her gear fell off on a hard landing, no other damage. Then stripped her down, gave the airframe away and started on the CE last fall.

I bet I read every page of this thread 15 times while I assembled her. Thank you to all who went before me. I found the information valuable. She is powered by a DA50 and finally maidened 2/12/15

You can see the maiden here: http://youtu.be/9goIlAf9Eqc Please like and leave comment

Pretty neat. And a bit odd that I got a Patty with a BME44 that I'm flying now and from the same seller in my town a GP Eagle stripped of gear. I wonder if the BME44 would power the GP at 3000' elevation?

I don't know that motor. I know the DA50 has a whole lot of umph. Most of that video was at 1/2 throttle or less.

It's an older one. BME builds them out of chainsaw engines and uses their own manufactured crankshafts and other parts that need to be stronger. They are very light. Mine runs a 20x10 prop and is adequate for the Patty but not extreme power. BME has stepped this motor up to a 50cc current production but if I bought a new motor today it would probably be one of the top brands.
