Default Great Planes Patty Wagstaff 300 wings stuck

Great Planes says to sand the cardboard wing tubes to allow the wings to go on. Problem is everytime I fly this plane, 4 trips to the field, I am having to sand the tubes. I am afraid I am going to sand through the cardboard. Great Planes said they would replace the wings if I send them my set, which is more money out of my pocket for their DEFECT. Anybody had any experience with this problem?

Thanks

I think just about everyone has had this problem withthis plane.Remember that in the summer the wood and metal will expand so it may fit a little looser.Use some baby powder.

Yes, that was a common problem with the early Patty's.

I had to sand mine when I first assembled it....but after flying it quite a bit last summer, the tube loosened up until the wings slid on very nicely. Just fly it a bunch...they'll loosen up with time.

I have one but mine works fine because it is the later version when they started using a phenolic tube. Iheard about the original problem though.

I heated up the glue around the tube and pulled it out, it took some time to get it out. I then slit the tube with a #11 blade, then put it back in the fuse with tape around the cut area, epoxy near the former to hold it firmly in place. This was well over 1 year ago and 100+ flights. It slides in and out w/o any problem. Good luck.

Why not replace the socket since you had it out???

I fixed it, therefore it did not need to be replaced.
