Getting ready to start putting my Edge together, but still need to order servos. This is my first giant scale 3D plane, so I don't know too much about what I'll need.
I usually stick to Hitec servos, and would like to keep my cost under $400 if possible. I imagine I'll need some fast, high-torque digitals... not sure which ones? Also, I don't want to overkill the issue and buy more than I really will need. Ideas?
Thanks,
Tom

I'm planning on putting 5945s in mine. At least for the ailerons and elevators. For the rudder, I'm considering a JR 8611, and I've got a couple of small fast accurate servos for the throttle and choke.

If you buy 4 5945s, a JR 8611 and a 3" Airwild arm from us the bill is $435, and that's a top of the line setup. Use a 5735 instead of the 8611 and the cost comes down to $405. Same torque but a little heavier.

Tom,
Actually, I was considering 5625's for AIL & ELE (speed) and a 5945 on the rudder. I get the impression you don't think that's enough?
Thanks,
Tom

I don't think you really need to worry about speed in this level of servo. Holding power and centering are what you are after. I have found that the 5945's seem to handle most anything. I have not really rung out the Edge yet so I can't say much about the 8611 except that in knife edge flight and centering it has proven dead solid.

I have one 5945 on my 28% Laser 200 and it has plenty on power for a pretty large rudder, relatively speaking. I would think a single 5945 will do fine on the Edge rudder. Give it a shot, and if it doesn't work for you go with the 5735 or JR 8611. Good luck!

Tom,
You don't think a 5945 is enough for the rudder too?

With the 8611 it looks more like an "O".
The 5945 is fine until you fly it with the 8611, that servo gives the rudder a whole different feel.
SO what is your definition of "enough"?

I decided to go with the top end and use the 5945's and 8611. Peace of mind knowing you've got more than enough to do the job is worth the extra few bucks!
Thanks for your help!
