Hi all.

I have just about finished putting the edge together with a DL50 up front. I am just setting up the throws and was a bit confused with the measurements given in the manual. I am guessing that the throws are in millimeters not degress.

What throws have you guys got setup.

RichAur, not sure about the throws as yet, only full throws, perhaps some one will chime in with their setup's.

I could not really understand the indicated throws in the manual either, what does ? mean....

Don,

Hopefully Adad my be still in here and clear up the ? meaning on the throws. Adad yoohooo?

I suspend my models upside down from a ceiling beam hook with three tent adjustable guy strings. One around each main landing gear and tail gear and adjust so you have level flight attitude. (Make sure its a good hook though then use a plumb bob off the same hook to find the CofG. This is the most accurate method I have found so far. I will quickly set it up and send you a picture.

with this method your not trying to balance and hang onto the model at the same time which gets difficult with a larger model. Once its hanging you can add weight to the nose or tail and see the result. It is just a matter of positioning the weight inside the fuse then. I usually don't mount the planes battery's and use them as the adjusting weight so as I don't have to add weight. I find this method very accurate and have had no problems so far.

Don,
U did a fantastic job on ur Pilot man, i got a pilot too but its not in my plane, i gave it to my grrrandfather to paint since he likes this sort of thing and he doesnt do much these days and anyways it looks terrible so i may have to buy another one from pa.
i used the great planes cg machine, its a little small but it does work, and then a week later i put pins in my wing and then i check the cg Upside down with my fingers and it was spot on, and since i have flown it, it was pretty much perfect i havent tried much 3d yet, but the plane flys nice and true here is a pic of my setup, i think its a little messy though

Aussie, thanks for the info on CofG.

If you get a new pilot, you can use spray packs or get a cheep air brush and some acrylic hobby paint, pretty easy to do, there is a great how to article in this months RCM. The overcoat with clear varnish realy brings it up nice.

Thats not messy man, nicely cable tied in, you should see some of the setups Ive seen, there messy....

yuh i can paint it at work being a panel beater and all, but i tell u without a trade behind u and knowing whats out there these things would be a night mare to put togethor to the un trained Eye i have seen some really simple setups with trainers and ppl still get that wrong, i dont know why but they do.
but overall iam very happy with this edge im just finding it hard to get the time to fly it, with the long w/e rain and all we are totally flooded at work.

RichAur, when suspending the model what are we looking to get level when setting it up ?

Equal length on the cords ?
Wing cord line ?
Bottom of model ?

Don,
I find the tailplane cord line is accurate enough. Depending on the wing it can be difficult with dihedral, washout etc. If you have a flat tailplane you could use a spirit level lightly on it. I generally stand back and eyeball it with respect to the wing and tailplane chords so it appears to be in level flight attitude but upside down. (did that make sense?). No real science to it a bit of common sense and guestimation.

Aussie, going well, RTF, just need to check CofG again, lifted off each wing tip and fairly spot on.

Yeah I used the original control rods with the Dubro horn attachments, worked fine, and the new wider rod on the rudder was better for the Pull, Pull setup as well.

Thanks Richard, It seems that we need to get something level to achieve accurate results, so I guess the wing cord line is what we are looking at.

I will give it a try ..

Thanks

Aussie, I used 2mm cap heads with a 2mm nyloc nut, it threads through the blue clevis perfectly, you need to replace the short 2mm screws provided with longer ones, should be some in the kit and put a nut on for safety.

I maidened my edge today. Put three flights on it. The first take off was a bit all over the place due to nerves and not knowing how much stick to put in. Two and three were much better. It landed like a trainer.
It has a DL-50 up the front which is more than enough power.

One very happy customer.
