for all those waiting for your DA-50 all I can say its hold on, dont worry about geting your engine! I spent some time this saturday with them and they are working hard on making all the 50 they have on order! almost all of the crew its working on the 50s!

I saw the 75cc prototype and its looking good!!!!

"What's the deal on the DA50 engines? Has there been a recall?"

Interesting situation: When you have superior customer service and 100% product support with a proactive management good things like this happen and for that we are all very lucky indeed. Compare this with the auto industry where they intentionally hide or deny their problems and require a government agency to force their hand...just something to consider. Good customer service wins out in the long run.

Just a commment and not trying to stir the auto folks up!

Dennis,

Thats great.
If I am not mistaken Cook County is up near or in Chicago. I fly with several guys from the Chicago area. We all meet at a buddies house (private field). It would be great to have you join us.
As far as Clubs... LOTS of clubs in Chicago.

Bodymann, you can stand on your wife's "new building location" and dead-stick your planes to my field. With any luck Wayne will visit us later this year but for 3D & IMAC the talent is down Wayne's way. They have a super nice setup but if you need to "just fly" you can't get much closer to a field than where your wife might employ!

Just ordered my Da today, I feel comfortable that they have the problems straightened out. New hardened crank pin, beefed up rod and bearing, and I guess the idle problem straightened out.

Just a note to anybody thats thinking of hanging a Taurus on the Yak. If you do, you'll have to add on to the firewall, ( i have no clue how to do that and make is strong) unless the radial mount can be rotated (I don't think it can) I was going to mount my Taurus, (on the plane) but have decided not to because of the headache with the Firewall

It is if you have the Mod.
My Motor has been trying to die at times. My motor has the updates to the crank etc but not this one for the fuel issue.
DA is sending me a new carb block and the stuff to do the update myself.

I should have it done this weekend.

Ouch! Does the radial mount not fit on the firewall? Good thing I haven't ordered it yet, cause that is what I was going to use. Thats OK I am sure that the alternative will be just fine. In fact I know of an engine that wil fit perfectly

Thanks for the news

Got my YAK last week and hardware bag yesterday. This thread has been great for me, thanks to all for the info. I got to see a lot of Yaks last week at GMA, but could not stay long enough to meet all the Yakers.

My first thought with the Yak had to do with a scale wheel pant (or ferring)

Has anyone fabricated a scale wheel pant like seen in the link below?

I can have Princess hold the motor on the firewall and take a picture if you like, the bottom bolt misses the firewall. there are 5 bolts in total, maybe 4 is good enough??

I believe there was a guy in EF Yak-54 68: thread that built a scale pant set.

That would be good if you can. I am curious how much hang there is. I am also curious who Princess is???[:-]

Thanks for your help, even if it doesn't fit I'll get the DA and life will be great.

Hey Scott, you really should be bigger than the box the plane came in to get to fly it

Got mine on tuesday! Obviuosly, I had to open the box even though the wifey says I can't start it until I get the home project done that I promised[:'(] No surprize that I was unbelieveably impressed! I was thinking about lightening the landing gear earlier, but Maudib was right; it's way too pretty and already pretty light (8.48 ounces).
However, I did take a little bit of paint off where the wheelpand will cover it to see what kind of material it was and whether it was worth it. All I can say is DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MODIFY THIS GEAR! Not complaining here, but the paint is on this gear for a reason - that reason being that the composite underneath is VERY blemished. So if you are looking to get lighter gear, look into carbon fiber gear and leave the alone.

Man, I don't see where one could put this plane on a diet! It's already as light as a feather! I know this is already among the lightest planes for its sized, but I was hoping to be under 15.5 lbs with a Hyde canister, given my altitude. The only thing I might be able to do, besides use lighter equipment, is maybe bore out a little foam and put lightening holes in the pipe tunnel. I don't even know if it is worth it One thing I do know, though...this plane is a bench mark in quality!!! Awsome job Chris!!!

I opened my box to find a 5 inch long crack in the front right side of the canopy, and 2 holes in the covering on the bottom sides of fuse. Other then that, AMAZING!!!

i get almost 80 degrees of aileron throw! and it is so perfectly done!
