Quick questions.... 1) KS1060 2) Futaba FM receiver 3) Smoke on Tuned pipe

1) Why does everyone talk about the KS 1060 pipe and not the KS 1050? According to the info posted on the DA web site, the 1050 should be the one!!!

2) One more thing, it looks like most people will be using PCM RX, this is my first gas plane, is there any problem with using a standard Futaba 127 RX if installed away from ignition module?

3) OK last question...... hey I got to start somewhere right! Can you put a smoke system on the KS 1060 pipe? According to the pics in this tread, I don't see any fittings.....

It's not the pipe, but rather the header you will need to get if you want to run smoke. Call DA and they will hook you up!!!

FM should be no problem, I've ran it before without issues.

The header has a nipple you attach the smoke line to, you don't have to wrap anything, it's hot enough. And yes you will have to call DA during business hours. They are 3 hours behind you, so I'm sure you will have plenty of time to call.

as for the size, the canisters and pipes are made in europe to limit noise, so in order to get maximum performance from them you must order them one size larger than listed. thats why there is a 125cc pipe there. those with da 150s will run two of those. for my da 100, i ordered ks 70cc cans. so for a da 50 you would also want a 70cc can or pipe.

Also, as it was explained to me by Dave at DA, the majority of the cannisters are overrated in their capacity. He said a 75cc can is more like a 60cc can, 50cc more like a 40, etc, etc, so thats why you go up one size on the cans.

Nobody answered the P-P servo horn question on compatibility. Is it a phenolic??


Aerosplat:

I want to see a picture of the Stabs from the bottom looking up....I want to see if the geometry of the stabs is exactly like the the 68. THat is, the inward cut on the stab from hinge root to TE going inward to the rudder. On the 68 it is a straight line , is it the same ???


Also when crossing the the P-P wires will they touch each other and rub??

Are the stock DA Spacers the right length or do we have to cut them??

THat is enough for now, I am enjoying the afterglow of flying my 68 all day today in Chicago.

They must be phenolic. Just means you need to buy an aluminum hub for the servo. I won't mount the phenolic to a plastic disk.

Nelson makes the hubs.

Anyone using the carbon fiber spinner from EF? or ANY one? do you have to cut them so prop goes in? it doesn't look like they are cut out for the props

You have to cut them, they are Pete Model spinners.

No time to take a picture right now. [&o] The root rib on the stab is a straight line, but not 90 degree to the hinge line. It is cut on the same angle as the fuselage taper so the hinge line is at 90 degrees to the center thrust line.

The P-P arm is phenolic, just like the control horns. It screws into a standard servo wheel with 4 screws at 90 degrees. This is how Chris has his mounted. It has spacers to set the two halves the same spacing as the control horns so the ball link will mount in between. The servo wheel will be sandwiched between the two halves with the spacers. Very secure arrangement. Yes, the wires will rub where they cross. Some heat shrink and light grease will prevent any chafing.

The stock DA spacers ( 2 1/2 " ) are the right length.

I have the 4" CF PETE spinner I picked up from Chris. Yes, you have to cut the slots for the prop. go to troybuilt models.com and click on Giant Scale, then spinners. He has an excellent tutorial with pictures on how to make the cuts.

How are the wings constructed? Have you verified that there is sufficient glue, etc in the shear webbing for all the high G stuff you see in the Yak vids?

Not true Mokken...

Several props out there including Bambula and MSC will not fit the Menz cut... I know because I have a CF spinner cut for Menz... neither will fit...

John if you read around on these forums you will quickly see that this is by far the best airplane on the market.... that nobody actually owns. And..... you would be silly to buy any plane other than this one....... even though if you haven't been on the magical list for months you can't buy one.

does anyone know how many poeple are on the waiting list yet? and how many yaks are on board? i want to try and figure out if im getting one of the first shipments, i have had many people tell me both things, yes and no, so i don't know.

And Mokken, thanks for the TBM site tip, but looking at your avatar, i get the feeling of bein yelled at by a teacher at school. weird eh?

Wayne I don't know why you think my post was "hostile". You know I think that Chris is a great guy. I just find it amazing how many people think this is the best plane since sliced bread when very few have even laid eyes on it. I guess too many people believe everything they read on the net. I bought into the hype and ordered the 68" Yak only to find that it didn't fly as well as everybody said it did. Oh well, live and learn, that is what I get for paying $350 for a small glow plane.

Well there sure seems to be a lot of excited people on this thread and not a cricket fart on the "other Yak thread"...


I suspect there will be a lot of sour grape mashin' in the next week or so judging by the pics of one of the very first recipients of Yaks that passed Chris' high standards.

Already I'm excited about the extras that sure add up to value:

Awesome Phenolic Control Horns pre-slotted... just glue them in...
Offset Servo Arm
Wing, Stab and Fuse bags
Carbon fiber wing & stab tubes
Composite Landing Gear
Titanium pushrods
Intergral Pipe Tunnel
Pre-drilled Hingepoints
Lightweight construction


Sure seems like a heck of a deal for the extra $250 PLUS knowing you are supporting future development of great flying aircraft... I feel SOOOOO bad for those who won't make the first boat (which is supposed to leave China in the next few days)...

A second batch is already under construction though so those who are ailing may still get to fly one this spring...

OK, let me see if I got this right. If you could buy this aircraft, which you can't, then it would be the greatest aircraft you never owned and fly much better than other planes you never had? And the best part is it won't cost you anything not to own it!
