In the instructions it says to use loctite on all bolts. Does this include bolts with nylon lock nuts? Will the loctite eat up the nylon?

Got 3 more flights on mine today. It just gets sweeter and sweeter. I hope to get some DB and RPM readings for those that are interested in the MTW TD75 cannister setup.

Locktite is not needed on bolts where nylon lock nuts are used.
I'm not sure if the Loctite would "eat" the nylon or not.
The object is to use some kind of locking device on every bolt.
I wouldn't use both Loctite and a nylon locking nut on a bolt.
Just use one or the other.

Probably a little over a month.
LISTEN UP AFPD FLIERS!!!!!!!!!
docinsane at www.docinsane.com has a free EF Yak54 download so you can fly your yak on the sim!!!
However, I must warn you that, after downloading it, my AFPD freezes up after about 5 minutes. But I am a rediculously novice computer guy, so the mess up could be me...

Well, I decided to just use a metal rod with a 90 degree bend in it, and reach in and choke my engine. Once it fires, I reach in, take off the choke. Now, I just have to keep up with my homemade tool.
Also, how are you guys mounting your little back cover plate? With blind nuts, wood screws, or what.
My CG turned out around 6.75 - 7.00", does this seem ok?
I also took some RPM readings today, and I got between 6900 and 7000 rpm's with a Mejzlik 22x10 at WOT. I am using the KS 1060 pipe on my plane. Does this sound correct?
Thanks in advance.
Hopefully I will get fly mine soon, if the wind will die down!

Never having used voltage regulators before ( I have the Fromeco IMAC package) are there any special precautions to take in mounting the regulators? I'm using the standard regulators. Do you mount them on a foam bedding, can they be velcroed down, screwed down....just curious as to any ways NOT to mount them....I do know they should not be wrapped in foam for heat dissapation...thanks!

" how are you guys mounting your little back cover plate?"
I plan on using 4x40 1/2 " nylon socket head bolts (very light).....I think Wayne tacked his with CA glue...it won't take much to secure it.
Thanks for the pics jpa........the straps & friction from the foam are holding the regulators in place?

Re: the tail wheel steering (or following) wire and the report of someone having it fall out....you can simply bend a 90 deg bend in the wire in front of the vertical wheel collar assembly....this way it can't slide out....backwards at least!

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I used 2-56 bolts into blind nuts. I just don't like such small wood screws, they never stay tight.
I used 4 wood screws... but when I'm finished and ready to fly, I'll put a dab of silicone on each of the 4 wooden tabs, then run the screws in. The silicone "tacks" the 4 corners of wood to wood down, as well as acts like a "threadlocker" on wood screws. A tiny dab of "Shoe Goo" glue works too, as long as you don't use too much (you'll never get it back off!)

Lou,
Check with Kurt at Fromeco but I am not sure screwing the regs in place is a good idea. Too much transfer of vibrations from the airframe to it.
Mine is velcro'ed with CA on the velco.

I used clear ultracote that I had left from the hinge gaps. If it needs to come off all you have to do is peal and pop the cover.
Mine is velcro'ed with CA on the velco.

matus777, yes the foam and straps seem to be holding the regulators fine.
OK, now for an expo question. When they say 65%, is that +65 in both directions, or +65 and -65?
I understand what expo is, kindof how it works, but what should I expect to feel when I fly. Let's say someone had expo in a plane and you flew it, how would you know it, and how would you gage the amount of expo?
Thanks
Jon

Jon, depends on your radio brand!
if you are using futaba you need to program negative expo
on JR it will be positive expo
with exponential you are going to have less travel on the center of the sticks, but you will have all the travel if you go all the way on the stick, with expos you are going to feel your plane easer to fly when you are on Hi rates!
the goal with exponential its to feel your plane exactly the same on hi rates as you feel it on low rates!
always program the same exponential to both directions of the sticks! ( -65 and -65 )

If you flew an airplane with an aft CG and 50 degrees of elevator throw, and you were flying at a moderate speed and couldn't keep it level without porpoising, and you were BARELY moving the stick, thats no expo. If you dial in a bunch of negative expo, it softens the movement JUST around center, so it FEELS less responsive, even though you haven't reduced the throw. You can fly around in a more controlled precise manner, but then when you pull up into a torque roll or enter a spin, you can still have full deflection without flipping switches. How much expo just depends on your preference, some people prefer "touchy" airplanes and just learn NOT to bang the sticks unless they are going very slow. I like to have to "pull" a noticeable amount on the elevator in a tight turn, or to flare for landing. It just seems unnatural to make a steep turn or flare for a nice slow landing without hardly moving the stick.
Edit: JR calls it positve, even though it's DE-sensitising, with Futaba you can do either.

First flight with the smoke system last night!! Worked very well... I'm using the slimline pump, I had it set at 60%ATV, gonna drop it to 25%, there was a lot of unburnt oil all over the plane.... I used this same oil "superdir" on my last big plane and it was pretty clean... I used a 1650 duralite pack directly wired to the pump for power...
I also moved CG forward a little, and the knifeedge was much better, not sure I need any mix at all now.
Now I just need to learn how to fly!

I don't think you can go + expo with JR,

Futaba gives you the option to go both ways.

On the topic if smoke, i understand that you can tap the DA via one of the grub screws underneath so that you can get addtional crank pressure to power a smoke system. Apparently all you need is a one way check valve. Anyone tried this?

go on ebay and search "digital scale" . Any one rated up to 35 or 25 pounds will do...only around $25, plus an outrageous shipping fee.

I just eyeballed the stickers, so it is highly likely that it is off center or crooked. Let me tell you guys, the stand is high dollar, but it is a piece of quality and well worth the money to me. Well, I guess I spent all of my money on the stand, so I don't have scales.
What scales do you guys use? Any recommendations?

7000 sounds about right for a new engine with a tuned pipe at somewhere around sea level. I am hoping for 6700 with the CHP cannister and msc 23X8...

Had 3 more flights yesterday, 7 total now. Starting to like this plane more and more! I came in for a fake landing, was about 6 inches off the ground, pulled up into a wall to hover, tail was about 2 inches off the ground, i was confident through the whole thing, this plane is amazing! i love going straight up from a hover, pushing over the top with full down elevator, and coming into a rock solid inverted harrier.
Am flying today at 3 oclock, will try to get some pics.
