I used to work for UPS. If you haven't actually been in one of these hubs to watch what's going on, you are definitely not aware of what they put your package through. The term "Fragile" and "this side up" mean absolutely nothing, nada, ZILCH!!! to the people loading your box into the trailor. But that doesn't appear to be wher your major damage occored...it occured on the belt system. What happened was, the destination trailor for your package got slammed with a ton of boxes all at once and the loaders couldn't keep up. Let me say also that, as soon as the sort shift starts it is an emergency situation. Belts need to keed rolling or all hell breaks loose. So with that said, the kept the belt moving even though they couldn't keep up, and packages just kept rolling in on the belt with nowhere to go (your box appears to have been somewhere in the middle of that) and your box probably had hundreds of packages pushing behind it. when that happens the hundreds of pounds of force exherts itself against the weakest box and turns it into an accordian.
Trust me, package service companies don't want you to know this kind of stuff because you probably wouldn't trust your pakage to them, so they can't expect you to ship the plane in a titanium case!
Having worked in this industry before, I would have never shipped the plane in such a weak box, but I still hope they do something for you.

Just finished reading THE WHOLE THREAD! It took me @ one month. WOW, it has been awesome. First I like to thank the following contributors... Maudib, wgeffon, going vert, dick hanson, coche, stomper, extreme flight, Ricmussman, matus777, bodyworks, jrjohn, Mike Parsons, BBribro, Torqued-Up, SydDithers, flatspin ( our English friend), flyingcrazy, Dave763, chipwill, basmntdweller and any other great contributors to this thread. Sorry if i missed your name, I feel like I know all you guys personally. I have been flying my 68" Yak from EF this year. Do not know when I wil get my 87", hopefully this year. But regardless of that, I have learned so much from all of you on engines/construction/electronics/control surfaces for gassers. It is all cataloged for when my Yak does arrive. I may even pick up a WH Edge and use the info to get that going while I wait for the Yak. Thanks again

Work took me to Denver last month and here is Mike Hurleys Yak that started as a plain white bird but with some custom covering he got this. I got a chance to fly it, the higher elevation sure makes a difference. The plane and engine are noticeably more sluggish.

Dick, actually Mike is running the tuned pipe on the DA50 and it had good power. I am comparing it to being at 500msl, I did not mean the plane itself was sluggish. I meant that compared to 500msl it is sluggish and takes more stick control to 3D than around here at 500msl. Mikes setup was very good.

yeh I know what you mean -that's why I make my engines sweat - you need more power than at sea level -just to be even up.
I practice electric stuff in the mornings at park next to me -and then when I fly my gassers they feel like slooow motion.
I wish I had the response I get with my cd roms on 6 ounce models ---they jump when you say frog.

I am justing catching up here but i cannot believe that someone would not only lie about their U/C or Firewall comming off neglecting to mention the fact that some previous damage has taken place but then after taking advantage of Chris's generosity goes and posts a major structural failure indicating a weekness in design. Kick in the teeth man, why?

On a more positive note i just came back from a visit to good old Goergia where i met with Chris and co and where i also had the privelage of going up to Chattanooga for Blanes fly-in. What a great event, lovely planes, great flying and good people. Also met with Mr Flying Crazy who i would just like to say does earn his name and for anyone who thinks Chris tests his planes to the Extreme you wanna see this guy, great to watch. nice to meet you man.

Also speaking of privelages had the oportunity to fly the 107" and despite being nervous flying the only one of it's kind in the world it was awesome. Nothing dramaticaly different from the 87 but of course you get the added stability and reaction time of a bigger plane. I would also say that the power to weight is even greater than the 87. I can feel a new car comming on.

Hey Flat spin it was great to meet you your are a great guy and a good pilot . It was a good time at the flyin .Sorry I did not get back the next day . I did call Owen and told him to tell you I was not comming he forgot to tell you ! When you come back to the states I will get what we talked about to you OK . Yes EF YAK is one tuff bird cant wate for more of them ! I will have one of the 103 in YAKs .

Well guys, it is with regret I inform you that I burried my Yak the other day

Talk about pilot error, I ignored my timer and dead sticked the plane [:@]

It was windy and I was low and you guys know that is a deadly combo.

The motor box is destroyed and the fuse side where the wings plug in are broken too, but the fuse is by and large fine.

I am going on a vaction so I won't bother fixing it since I don't have the time to do so.

BTW: If anyone needs a fuse that they can repair, please PM me and I will send you pics of the damage.

HEy Guys

Well got news on the FeDdEx deal. I talked to them and they actually fessed up to this problem and they are taking the correct action. I let them know that I have a severe lack of trust in them. 2 reason.. Frist they delivered a box that was destroyed like you all saw. Second that they left the package at the front door with out a signature when there was a signature required. They are also paying for they new parts to be FedEx next day air from GA.. I am still pissed but they are starting to take some sort of responsibility for their screw ups. Hopefully I can be airborne in a week or two. Looking forward to becoming a happy EF Yak owner. Can hardly wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Wayne. I found it funny watching the video over a couple of times, that what looks so precise on the ground really shows up as not being that way in the plane. For example from the ground, my four points look nice and clean. From the plane they are sloppy off by a bit. This weekend we are going to put the camera on the plane again and also tape from the ground while it is flying. I thought it would be neat to see a picture in picture of the plane from the ground and in the air at the same time.
