TNT aluminum. Added about 4-5 ounces. Now I am at a whopping 15.4 pounds!

Ok, what alternate landing gear are you guys putting on this bird once the factory gear starts to crap out???
I've got about 30 flights on mine... No hard landings, no damage... I was checking out my Yak last night when I noticed that the gear is starting to delaminate / crack where the gear angles downward where the mounting bolts go through the fuse... I've read this issue before on this thread, but can't find the page and the search function is of little help...

Ah Marc, it's too late. He already PM'd me the "secret stick moves" that you long to have.
Now it's our little secret and it's gonna cost you to get it.
LOL

Now I don't want to hurt any feelings here but.......
I was doing a little research tonight. Found out the Yak 54 is only an "aerobatic trainer" The Yak 55 on the other hand is the only plane the Russians use for all out competition. Went a little further and found there is a composite arf yak55 out there already. I have a feeling the Yak 54 will only be a stepping stone and the 55 will be the real deal for us modelers just as it is for the Russians. IMHO
here is a pic of the 33% YaK55

This is a pic of me flying a buddies 2.6M Composite ARF Yak. Its a great IMAC airplane but IMO is lacking in 3D ability..
Ya it hovers.. So what.
For 3D, your not going to beat this plane or some of the other 54's out there such as the QQ 102" or the 3W 120"

Marc,
I didn't post it straight in this forum because I didn't want to go too off topic but I suppose it is a "Build AND FLY" thread
I'm sure Neo has pm'd you my stick movements by now anyhow. There could quite possibly exist a better way of getting into a knife spin but I just taught myself and actually kind of fell into the move a s s backwards and managed to reproduce it after racking my brain on what I did to get into it the first time.

There are two ways to get into a knife edge spin the easy way and the hard way. I can only do the easy way although it looks much better entring themove the hard way. Simply go into a stall turn and as soon as the nose goes just beyond the horizontal kick in full opposite rudder full down elevator, full power or whatever you are comfortable with and maybe just a touch of aileron. I usually stall to the right kick in full left rudder and need a tiny bit of left aileron, really straight forward. Three of four goes and you'll have it. I could not do it on the 68 but pulled it ff realy easily on the 87 now i can do it on both, next step knife edge blender.

Hey Neo,
Looks like there's enough interest. Could you copy and paste that PM I sent you?
I'm not sure if the way I described it to Neo is the best way to get into a KE spin but it does work for me. Also I fly the Yak with the C.G. at around 8" back from the leading edge.
Cheers,
John

Why are you guys all struggling to learn the proper way to do a KE spin(and keeping it a secret?) when you have the master here reading this forum. Wayne, care to do a short tutorial on a KE spin?
BTW, I suck too, and can only repeat one when I want on rare occasion.

I do the KE spin with my yak out of blenders mostly because it is just another way to show diversity as the plane descends. But it is easy to do, I just get the plane in a ke and cut the power till it starts to descend then come in with aileron and down elevator on 3D rates and just bump the throttle off idle. The required aileron may be same or opposite depending on the plane. I cannot say how much aileron, elevator or throttle to put in but you will need to finess this some and play with it to see what your plane wants. Start high as these KE spins cause excessive altitude loss quickly. Now, the most important part, how to get out of it once you are in it. You can let the controls go neutral and it will come out, but you might not like how it does it. I just cross my rudder to the opposite side I was holding and it will go into an inverted flat spin and once the altitude loss stops I add throttle and begin releasing the inputs so it flies out of it. Play with this and you will get it.

Another win for greyhound.
Update on FedEX shipping the yak to Marcus that was discussed several pages back....
I finally was reimbursed by FedEx for the value of the replacement parts. Again, like we all know, Chris is the best on customer service so a HUGE pat on the back goes to them. However, here is a brief recap of everything I learned from FedEx.
1. I didn't declare a value on the shipping label because the lady at the counter only told me that I had to fill out one small portion of the slip.
2. I didn't sign the customer agreement section agreeing to the terms and conditions. Again, I was only told to complete the first section and nothing else.
3. One of FedEx's terms and conditions is that they have no-liability for "scale models" regardless of what declared value you state on the form. What that means is that had I declared a higher value and the package was damaged I would have paid a higher shipping charge for the insurance to find out later that I was insured for nothing.
4. Have plenty of photos, great communication from buyer, and all the facts together as well as having a claim filed on your end and the buyer's end with their local FedEx hub I think really helped. When Marcus got done with the local FedEx hub they were completely embarrassed that the driver even left the package in that condition.
5. Once you've got your story, go through the proper channels and expect to speak to a supervisor becuase the first level of guys you talk to can't do anything about the claim since it's a model. Every excuse was pulled out to try to prevent the claim (as is to be expected - afterall I did work fortune 500 for 4 years and did some of that myself) but having my facts together and the photos to back it up I think really helped drive everything home.
Honestly, had I signed the conditions and agreement form I would have been out of luck and FedEx would not have paid anything. From my understanding, that is what happened to Chris and he is out yet another $10,000 in damaged merchandise because of it. The lady at FedEx once I convinced her that FedEx/Kinko's had messed up took care of me and was very nice. However, luck was on my side and great buyer than anything else. That reminds me, I need to leave a feedback rating for Marcus! A+
So the moral of the story... do NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT ship anything RC Airplane related via FedEX under any circumstances at all. If it's damaged - your out of luck. I don't know about UPS but I do know that Greyhound has been a champ for me over and over again. Hope I wasn't unclear - I hate it when people don't understand me

Hey guys,,upon a little closer inspection it seems that my stab tube is possibly off by at most 1/8" low on the left side..My first instinct here is to just forget about it but I wanted to hear from you guys that have some flight time to get your suggestions..
