Joe, I think that the reason a lot of people are using SWB arms its couse we didnt know that the plane came with those CF arms! and we order our gear before the plane arrived!

CF landing gear

Hi Guys,

I have a KMP 87" Yak and I talked with Mike at Graph Tech to see if they were going to make CF gear for our planes. He said yes, but he needed dimensions. I figured I'd gather up the dimensions for the various brands of 84-87" Yaks out there and send them all to him. They should be close enough in dimension that he can make one that will fit them all, which I'm sure is what he'd want to do. So, if you guys can help out and send me the dimensions of your gear, it would help. Multiple responses are fine, since it would be nice to get multiple examples to make sure we're getting it right.

Here's what he'll need:

He needs three dimensions. A, B, C, D. Here is a description of what they are:

“A” is the width of the gear across the fuselage, “B” is the height from the top of the gear to the center of the axle, “C” is the width of the gear at the axles, “D” is the width at the top of the gear from front to back - at the mounting point.

They don't have a measurement for angle of the gear, but I'm pretty sure that will be close for all of them and I'll provide that measurement, but if you can you can add that to, that would be great. If you were looking down on the gear it would be the dimension from the front of the top of the gear to the front for the bottom of the gear.

Thanks in advance.

Edge, I don't know whre you can find that prop. but I tried several different wooden props, and one really stands out. The NX 23x8 from Airwild.

John
Yeah I switched from an MSC 22x8 to the NX 23x8 on the DA50 in my Vision once I got it broken in and I love that prop. The DA in my Yak is not quite broken in yet, but when it is I'll probably go with the same prop in it too. I've been considering trying a 24x8 on one of them as well, but have heard the same story that they are hard to come by now.

For what it's worth. I tried the 24x8 menz wood prop. I didnt like it at all for 3D. It loaded the engine too much and didn't spool up fast enough for getting out of trouble. I'd be happy to sell my drilled and perfectly ballanced 22x8 and 24x8 Menz props. I'm using a stock muffler, maybe they work better if the engine is piped, lord only knows
Thanks for the info, I was afraid of that. I really like the extra downline braking (and thrust) from the 23x8 and thought the 24x8 might give me more of the same. Just wasn't sure if it would be too much prop to spool up quickly enough. I also have a friend with a DA50 on his Yak that was considering the same. I think we better stick to the 23x8 NX.

Thx,

Tom

Roman,

Yeah. We verbally agreed to the sale over the weekend through a buddy of mine who translated for me.
Angelo Lomeli is his name. Do you know him?
Your friend is picking it up after the Shootout. Will you be there with him?

Micheal,

I got to fly Jon Leylands a few weeks ago and it was amazing.
I was flying it as good or better than I fly my Carden on the first flight. Its an easy plane to fly well.

Tony is building mine and Drew's at the same time. We should have them near the beginning of '06
