Yep I love the NX 23x8 in this plane and on the DA-50...
You will notice a LOT of slowing down... downlines. Chop throttle, etc...
It take a little getting used to if you're used tot he 22x8 NSC...
But once you got it... it' like flyinag a balloon. It just doesn't want to come down....

Another little note about DA...
I sent in my engine for the updates. (Carb block mod and Steel Connecting Rod) I also mentioned that I had the "bump" issue and it didn't seem to put out the same power as my buddies new DA50. They told me on the phone it would take maybe two weeks... I told them to not rush it as my season is over and I was in no hurry.
I sent it in Priority Mail..... 7 days later UPS was at my door with my engine!
Not only that but the "repair list" showed the two updates...
PLUS a new crankshaft and front & middle bearings! ALL at NO COST. Now perhaps the connecting rod had dropped some metal in the engine and that's why they did it. But they just fixed it in ONE WEEK, 2 DAY'ed BACK and didn't charge me a dime.
You can't save enough money on another engine to pay for that peace of mind.

Cool! I just ordered one from Gene..Since my DA on the Yak isnt broken in yet Ill try it on my Edge and see what it does for it..The MSC blades are so wide that it already slows it down pretty well so I cant wait to see what the 23X8 will do..any rpm #'s? I was thinking I should get around 6700-6800 with the Slimline

I am still using the 22 x8 Menz ( engine not broke in yet) . Will the 23 x8 NX fit the spinner cut outs or will I need to modify them ?
THANKS,
Rick

It will drop about 200-300 from the 22x8 MSC... but the thrust is still greater.
Yeah the MSC 22x8 is a great prop too... good braking, etc... wait til you try the NX 23x8

I can't say for sure Rick... yours is cutout for the Menz...
I cut mine for the NX 23 x 8 and then the wider based 22x8 MSC would not fit... So it's POSSIBLE... but I just can't be sure... you can call airwild and find out for sure... or maybe someone here went from the Menz to the NX????

I just got an email from Chris that I thought would be worth sharing here: the 87" Yak will be rpoduced again.
Herve, we WILL produce the 87" Yak again, it just will not be the first
plane we
produce in Malaysia. It is a complex build because of the fuselage shape and we want to start with a plane that is not so difficult to build.
Our contract with this new factory is for 500 airplanes a month so we will have plenty once things are up and running. But yes, I will give first priority to those who have been on our list.
Thanks for the inquiry.

Hey Wayne! ordered a NX 23-8 today..Im hoping to get within 65-6700 rpms..Im getting 7200 with the MSC/Slimline pitts now..Is it difficult to retro fit a stock DA muffler after cutting the cowl for a Slimline? Im starting to get weight crazy..I could get under 16lbs by switching mufflers but the plane flys so good now Im wondering if its worth the trouble.

Drews plane weighs 16 even and mine is 15 lbs 6oz.
Its almost impossible to twll the difference in the two planes.
Except that mine flies lower.. LOL

Well that eliminates a bipe (Pitts S-12)....
Hmm... wonder, wonder...
Here is my guess. How bout a 90 inch Extra 330S with the same characteristic as the Yak - - 3D great, IMAC greater being hauled around with a DA-50 at 16 lbs flat? With a typical Extreme Fligh kick butt style covering in new colors it could be a great.... would that be 31% on a DA-50. Hows that for larger scale presentation.
So what, might be dreamin' but am still on the list for two birds and if they do 3D and IMAC like the 87 Yak (seen ALL the videos).....then I am in![8D]

What is the part number of the 4-40 ball links that come with the plane ? Dubro has several different ones. Anyone using the Dubro Monster 4-40 links ? I assume all the Dubro links are unthreaded so they can be used on right or left hand threaded rods ?
THANKS,
Rick
For everyone's info:
Dubro #899 , the are not threaded and can be used on right or left hand threads.

JOsey,
Just got back from the hunt , and the freezer is full , the smoker is packed, and the butcher will be busy for some time.
Glad to hear about the succesful maiden!!!
I run a MEzjilk 22x8 on a broken in DA-50 on AMsoil 50:1 Dominator. 7400 rpm with the stock muffler. I wanted to run a wood prop, but after some reading I am dis-inclined to go that way.
De-bunk this guys.... a wood prop stands more of a chance of bending your crank on a prop-strike than a hollow or laminated CF prop . I was told this and then read it on another forum, ...is it true???? Which prop breaks easier????
.................................
the new plane is NOT going to be a Pitts-12 , dream all you want, I posted that "Want Ad" right after Chris' last post. But the new 50cc is not a P-12. I wish it would have been.
It doesn't matter anyhoo.....I want one of whatever he produces.....most likely 2

..............................................
Wayne, yeah baby,...you take it low, ............freak out low. The video you have of it low is still higher than what I saw you fly it...

I Just bought Bodyworks' Extreme Flight Yak-54 87" . This way I dont have to destroy a NIB one , I can thrash a used one and not feel bad about it.
The reject I have been flying is really heavy compared to this, at first I thought it was alright, but it takes a lot of time to recover from some 3D manuevers... OK flyer , but not like a foamy.
At least is did it's job and got me past the crashies with the gassers. Can't wait to strap on the EF....I though I would have been flying one of these 5 months ago, but the crashies made me shy away unitl I got comfortable .
911 miles by Fed EX .........then a however long it takes for the wind to calm down around here.
I got with the DA installed, no servos or batts. Alum gear by TNT. Pete CF spinner. I will go with CF gear ...anyone got a good source??

Boss,
There is no reason to go CF gear on the plane I sent you, especially since you eluded to the fact that your landings aren't always perfect 10's
.
My Yak weighed 15.25 pounds with those gear. At your elevation that shouldn't be a problem. Plus, I spent like 3 hours tapering the leading and trailing edges to lighten them up and make them look better!! Please give them a try!
Oh, sorry, but I didn't give it a bath before I shipped it...
BTW, I saw the posts on the damaged Yak...it could have been packaged better.
I built a 78X14X24 crate frame out of 1X2 studs, pretty much around the Yak, to the point that Boss will need a prybar to unpackage it. Then I wrapped it with two layers of cardboard, and I shipped it 2-day air so it won't get handled so much. It shouldn't be a problem.

Body, yep the yak should have / could have what ever on the packing. However, if the package is lost in shipping, ran over by a truck / forklift (all things that have happened) your crate still would not have protected the package and it would not have been insured. Why risk it? Just a point that's all.

Well, I hope FEDEX is kind to it. Sounds like Nick packed it well. Both of my NIB 87's showed up near perfect...1 cowl had a small crack that I never reported to Chris'. At the time he weas reeling from worse disasters and I didn;t want to compound it. A little CA and some tint and nobody will know it was cracked unless they get close.
But the boxes were perfect and undamaged. So, I have good faith it will show up undamaged.
Four servos and receiver later....I am re-maidening it on the first calm day. Whe.eeee....
But , this plane will be old new as soon as the New EF 50cc comes out. I am so there. I really want a Pitts-12 50cc ...I love that plane, but we will have to wait. I heard someone else is going to produce one, but I am not interested. The new Cad designer for EF has a great Pitts-12 in E-power...and I hope they SUPERSIZE it soon.

Here are a couple of 1/5th scale made for Electrics he has done:
