I have the red one and its solid..I followed Maudibs procedure..hollowed out the foam and epoxied the whole assembly..then I turned the plane upside-down and completely covered it in more epoxy..no way its comming out

Yeah... it seems some are fairing better than others. I think anyone beefing it up with epoxy or wrapping it, etc. will not see a failure.

I think the answer is like you said..wrap it in kevlar or smother in epoxy..you cant even see mine..it actually looks like foam because I smoothed it out to match the contour of the turtle deck

I flew mine today before the storms came through. Windy , shaky landing , but flat and easy.

THen......I let one of the better pilots in our club have a go.

3 mins into the flight the wind really picked up , crosswind to the field. After a couple of go-rounds my friend tried to crab it , got it down on the wheels OK. but the wind flipped it up on the nose and left wing panel .

We heard a "CRACK". I have a Cf Prop and spinner. I thought they were done, at least. But , no damage. We Can;t figure out where the "CRACK" came from.

Motor box OK , gear OK , cowl OK. It was a propstrike , but it all looks well, idle at strike ,soft wet ground.

The worst part is, if we didn;t have such a bad set of firetruck ruts at that end of the field, he could have let it roll out and then it would have been ok. But, he tried steer it away (90 degs) from the ruts. And the wind caught it. [:@]

I am going to tear it down all the way to look for ANY damage. Outside looks can be decieving.

No,

up on nose , with left wing on dirt. CF Prop in mud. No dirt in cowl, no damage to cowl, at least that I saw. I still haven't unwrapped her yet. I de-fueled her and wrapped her up. The motor was tight to the firwwall, no movement with a wiggle. Not even a scratch on the CF Petes spinner. Just a little mud on the prop. [8D]

I hate the CF props, look cool, perform well, but I bite my nails when thinking of a propstrike.

My KMP has had 3 propstrikes, because of tall grass and wheel pants, with this very same prop, none of them did damage, all on idle at stop, in soft ground. I had to take this prop off of her for the EF after I broke the MSC 23x8 on my pant leg, while moving her around the shop..[:@]

I knew it was a bad idea to put this CF prop on , I gotta just pitch it, and not have the temptation to use.it.

It sucks, in the respect that you can't plan or decide to go with something else. It is great in terms of "suprise and anticipation", hype and enticement. For those of us who are faithful customers , not a biggie, really. For those on the fence, it may knock a few off as they go for something "known".

Chris is smart ot avoid the "headache" of the pre-shipping questions , delays./..ad nauseum.

Let's keep ourselves entertained in the meantime....

How about a pool . ............

I understand your position, but having seen what Chris has had to go thru with supply and demand I think he is really doing the right thing. I am sure the few who jump the fence will have their spots filled when you can actually order it.
My guess on the next plane, 74" yak 54.

Does anyone happen to have the instuction manual in a pdf format for the ExtremeFlight 87" yak? Also are there any canapy and/or tailwheels that might be available out there from any crashed/unrepairable 87" yaks that anyone knows about?

So while we are entertaining what the next 50cc might be, my guess is that he will do an Extra in 300 or 330 stretched to 88 inch wing and call it a 32% 50 CC which can fly well with DA-50 or the Evo 58 for great power/weight.

Below is one of his 85 inch Extra 330's that I got off of Ebay (reject). At 17.5 lb flying weight(no CF stuff) it accelerates greatly out of hover with DA and has wonderful control authority with no bad tendencies.

Second guess though is a Suhkoi with 88-90 inch wing and no bad flight tendencies that will still take a 50cc. Nobody is doing Suhkois any more. Lately its all the Yak craze (started by EF) ánd Extra 260's. My bet is that he will go where no manufactures are going and bring us something very desirable. Come on Chris, my tax refund is on the way....Help me spend it before the wife does!!

so far there are no 50 cc extra 260 s
that hangar 9 plane doesnt count way to small

i bet a light 50 cc 260 with better than 84 inch wing span will be a great product to have right about now

RDb ,

I have one of those EF Extra Rejects in the box. What did you do to the motor box for the DA-50??

17.5 with no Cf is decent, like a WH Extra.

Sukhois 50cc??? I would have to pass on it, every single Sukhoi Su-31 that has flown at our field , whatever size it was, .40 .90, or the Hangar 9 giant, they all had landing gear tear-offs. I don;t know what is about the Sukhoi and our field , but it is like oil and water....

The 260 , I am on board with, but man, NO ONE has a PITTS S-12 in 50cc.

And....Mike Hall is a Pitts S-12 expert. ..........supersize that big one, Mike .

I would find room to store 3 of those....

It came with a spare firewall. I cut it down by 1 7/8 inches remounted and re tri stocked then added the aluminum angle on outside with epoxy and screws. The second one that I am assembling for my brother has FPE 3.2 power. Cut the firewal back the same amount there too. Will put mine on CF diet and take out the two 2000 NIMH and put in 1200 to bring it to around 16.75 flying wt.

Mike, sorry to hear abuout the Suhkoi's with gear problems...I like watching them at full scale airshows, a pretty flying bird. The only problem with the Pitts for me is too many servos and can't just stick it in back of my Ford Ranger ready to fly.....would have to get a trailer to haul around.

As far as I can remember EF said that the next 50 CC would be bigger than the 87 Yak and weigh around the same. That's gonna be cool in any book.[8D]
