I was wrong about putting that plane away for a few days and then it would be fixable. My theory will not apply in this particular situation.

LOL.
Definately not made to withstand an impact.
Mike handled the crash better than most people. He was laughing about before any of us were.
The video is good but dont watch it if you have a problem with the F-Bomb..

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
actually ...if a caffiene crazed modeller used some ca and kicker........I have ALL the bits..
I pieced together a crashed scratchbuilt plane of my Pop's once and with the carnage assembled, was able to "Farmer Fix" it.
A little heavier , but flyable.
I like this design and ain;t givin' up on it. My dork, not the planes fault at all. You'll see the video eventually and be able to see a "thumb fart".
The 87" is the ONE.
Come on tidal currents....

Before you look at the new videos, Wayne did all the hard work on these. He did most of the flying, editing and posting. Thanks Wayne.
Also, we are over the bandwidth limit on the site. If the site goes down check back on monday. We'll have more bandwidth then. Please save these videos to your computer by RIGHT CLICKING and SAVE AS. This still uses bandwidth, but allows you to view them a second time directly from your computer (which saves bandwidth and allows your fellow RCU buds to watch the videos too).

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I thought I'd post my settings where I ended up on the radio today.
These setting are based on Chris's recomendation for 3D (100% travel)
Flight Mode 0 and 1
Aileron. 60% travel / 45% expo
Elevator 33% travel / 40% expo
Rudder 50% travel / 40% expo
Flight Mode 2
Aileron. 100% travel / 45% expo
Elevator 100% travel / 45% expo
Rudder 100% travel / 45% expo
Elevator has 1% down mixed in at idle on FM 1
I had an elev and ail mix set up for the rudder but found that the plane didnt need any.
My timer was initially set for 10 minutes. I landed and had over 3/4 of a tank left!
I upped it to 16 minutes and was landing with just under half a tank left.

Awesome as usual Wayne and everyone who helped with the Vids.
I have my 68 incher in mothballs ( need bigger motor ) and I am getting Yak Itis again.
Were there no changes to anything from the sequence style video to the 3d?

Nope.
Just a flip of a switch.
If you have the right plane, it doesnt need to be tailheavy to 3D.

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
I just watched (and downloaded them so i save your bandwith, your welcome) the new videos, and all i can say is AWESOME!!!! Wayne, I gotta meet you sometime, im going to try and make it to Toledo sometime, Seems like you and me are alot alike.
I was wondering if the stock DA muffler is quiet enough for IMAC? under 98 db? If it is, i want to use that to get the lightest wing loading that i can get with the other stuff im using. Plus my dad likes the fact that the muffler is 95 and the tuned pipe is 175 bucks.
And im completley lost on the electronics. Could someone shoot me an email if they wouldn't mind helpin a kid out? i got confused really fast and don't know what to get. I have 2, 2000mAh NiMh's that i want to use. I like the Smart Fly Super Switch, http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/Switch/switch.htm but i don't know if it is what i need. I was also going to get the Batshare thing, not really sure how to use that either.
Gassers seem a little more complicated then the .40's.
So if anyone can help me out with the electronics, Shoot me an email at [email protected]
Thanks a tons guys,
Scott

Wayne,
Sweeeeet Video (3D) and Excellent Flying!
I am nuding up and swimming out to met the boat!
From the looks of the video, the DA w/ the stock muffler is more than enough pull!!!
2005 - "Year of the Yak!"
Is that a new motor? What prop are you running?
Can I say,
"I'm Stoked!"

Mine is set up like a .60 sized sport plane with the exception of the ign battery and regulators.
There are some things that are different when going to gas like, tie wrapping every fuel line fitting, loctite on everything, Mixing fuel and oil etc..
Its actually easier than glow because you dont have to mess with the needles and there isnt much mess to clean up. (after you get away from the break-in oil)

RE: Extreme Flight 87" Yak 54 - Build & Fly
Really nice videos and flying Wayne. I really like the way the plane flew during the unlimited sequence. Very hard for a 50cc plane to do that well so I thought. Would really be nice to see a 50cc beat out a 40% in an imac competition. I will be flying Intermediate this year and no one will have anything under a 100cc. Would be nice to have those kind of bragging rights
Was your radio setup for those nice snaps 60% ail; 33% elev; and 50% rudder? Snaps seemed really axial on those settings.
I have a Wild Hare Edge that had a bad misfortune this past summer and I was going to purchase a new fuse and throw my ZDZ 50NG back in her, But after seeing the power and the way this Yak 3ds with less weight and more wing area I think I'm going to have to find a way to get my hands on one of these. Don't get me wrong, my wild hare flew absolutely great but I am a 3d nut and Less weight with more wing area always turns me on.

The stock muffler is more than enough power.
The motor is brand new.
It had 2 or 3 minutes run time on it yesterday at my house and then we made these videos today.

I'm definitely sold. Just sent Chris an email. I'm not in a major rush so the wait seems to be worth it. Hopefully I might win a few contest with this bird. If not I'll have a ball 3ding all day long. Don't you just love these new multi-talented birds.

Gotta ask Wayne... what was the whoa at the end of the 3D video? Sounded like you were running low on fuel....
Nice flying... no excellent! These videos ae just what we've been waiting on...
What do you think Dick (Hanson) you were waiting for vids... wondered if they increased you excitement level?

No, Drew realized it was an hour later than when he said he'd be home.
Seriously,
The motor is rich right now and bogs at times in hard pulls.
