Get ready to take some video of of a totally "average pilot". And that's on your plane, not on Waynes.

Hey guys,
Look real hard at the tail of my bird. I'm using the 5955 on my rudder with no problems at all!!!!!

It centers right EVERY TIME. I'm not a huge Hitec fan even though that is all I have had for the past five years(cost factor for me[
]) but I have never had a problem with em!! Even the 56 series!!
I just don't care for the slop on the 8411s. If the 8611 proves to not have the slop of the 8411s, I may start buying them. For now I'm very happy with the 5955tg on the rudder with a 6 volt setup.

That is a great shot. So i guess the servos are waterproof as well
Just a note on the 5995 5955 debate. I have been told rightly of wrongly that these two servos are very different internally is that not the case.

What proves your "miserable people" theory is how those same "miserable people" don't post snide remarks on the "other" Yak thread... Those planes were available for quite some time, with basically noone proud to own them, few build pics, no flight reports.
Where were the miserable "Come on, all them planes out there and only 2.5 posts?" comments?
You hit the nail right on the head Wayne. It must really bother people to realize they are so transparent....
I've only used the block feature one other time. Now make that two.
On another note... can't wait til summer and get all this "stuff" behind me... If I am able, I want to get out and fly with some new friends I've made on this thread alone. You, Drew, BossHoss, BriBro... the list goes on. Maybe we need to do a "Yak Fly In" we can then camp around Boss's reject fire and and realize that even rejects can be useful too...

Actually you are just South of Cinci right? That's only 2 hours away from me... you and I for sure will be doing the "Yak" thing together.
I have family in Ashland, KY and I occasionally get down their to visit... but that's about as far from you as I am...

Awwe, thanks J.

Doug,
There are three of us in Columbia building the Yak. We made the trip Saturday and picked them up. Very impressed with the quality and the completeness of the kit. I was real pleased to see the canopy already mounted, I have always dis-liked that step. This ARF is way above the quality of the many ARFs I have owned in the past ranging in size from 1/4 scale to 40%. Chris is a great guy and very accommodating as well. Felt comfortable around him as he seams to be one of the fliers that really enjoys the hobby.
I have already started assembly of mine. Surfaces hinged, horns installed, main and tail gear installed. Mine will be simple as well, DA-50 on standard mufflers and old fashioned NiMH batteries
Do you fly at the Black Sheep club?

Picked up my 87" Yak today from Chris. Great guy in person. His shop was pretty well filled with boxes for all you good boys and girls. The packing is beautiful with double shipping box. Opened mine and everything looked perfect. Got the supplemental hardware pack handed to me at the same time. Also bought a CF spinner from him. Saved a little shipping right there. Box fit into my Pathfinder no problem.
Got to see prototypes and the future of electrics. Heads up, guys! Stay tuned to the website is all I can say. He has the new line of outrunner motors. They looked great.
I'm shooting for the Keep It Simple concept after looking at his. Just build it and fly it. I'll let those more skilled and knowledgeable than myself post the tweaks and pics. Until then, I have to redo a kitchen first. Then, the handyman (me) gets paid a DA-50 and some yet to be determined servos. Maybe the JR/Hitec debate will have been settled.
If anyone else in my general area is building and flying one of these, let me know.

Maudib,
You need to do some IMAC this summer with us. There are several contests in Ohio that a lot of us are planning on going to.
Ever flown any IMAC?

If I make it back to Cleveland (where I grew up) this summer I'd love to hook up with you guys in Ohio for an IMAC contest. I doubt I'd be able to bring a plane but I always like seeing new fields and meeting folks from RCU. I'm sure they always need an extra scribe or something.

I have only recently become interested... I downloaded the basic and sportsman sequences as well as the 2005 Rulebook.
My YAK will take me into my first contest... I also have an H9 Sukhoi I'll fly some too (until my 100cc EF Yak arrives)
I was just thinking this morning (being such a greenhorn) how it would behoove me to watch others fly so I understand better the distances, the box, how calling translates into performance, the lingo, etc.
I really look forward to the 2005 IMAC sequences you are going to video.
And for sure... I should be able to attend the Ohio IMAC events anytime after April orperhaps as late as Mid-May...

Wayne,
Would you move the CG forward a little for IMAC from your usual set up which I assume is for 3D flight? I'm thinking of doing that on my Wildhare as well as a little smaller prop for straighter up lines.
I have a feeling you'll be flying something a little bigger in actual competition.

I hate tail heavy planes so I set my planes up on CG, or forward.
All the videos of my Yak are with a forward CG and there is no loss of 3D performance.
This plane doesnt need to be tailheavy to 3D.
My Yak will compete in IMAC this season.
I will split it up between the Yak and a 40% Carden 330.
The only drawback to a 28% is presentation. But, if you have the right judges they will take that into account.
All of my Freestyle rounds at IMAC's this year will be with the Yak.
I am also going to fly the Yak at this years XFC in the Unknown rounds.

Been on the list for about 2-3 months
ORIGINAL: bodyworks
How long ago did you get on the list? I just got on the list a few days ago and I'm in the "maybe this run" catagory. I think I am so close that he either does have a couple extra or it will only take a couple people before me to cancel in orer to get one. I'm hoping that a few of the "other" Yak owners were origionally on the list and canceled their order...I hope to get a call this week!

Just got the call from Chris to get final payment. He said Yaks will start going out soon.Hope to get mine soon so I can get started building and flying this plane.

It's good to hear that more of these planes will be in the hands of the average modeler soon so we can really start to get the low down on how the stack up (and "stack in" for some unfortunate pilots). 60 pages and counting for twenty planes leaves a lot of room for servo debates and battery theory don't you think? While I really enjoy a lesson on how to cut a spinner I'm more looking forward to the video of JDavid wringing out his newest bestest plane ever.
On another note... I saw a KMP Yak out at the field last week. The pilot who built it beefed it up 18 ways from Sunday with carbon fiber and ply because he thought it looked weak out of the box and he flies a style of high speed aerobatics that will rip the wings off of most planes on the market. After he added the G62 it was still tail heavy on the maiden and he almost lost it. As he was adding nose weight I pointed out that maybe taking the battery out of the tail would help but even with the G62 you'd think it would be nose heavy to say the least. Well I look forward to the inevitable autopsy to really see how this thing was manufactured and what they left out that Chris knew better than to ship them with (without).
Well back to your regularly scheduled programing of Hitec servos and maybe in another 40 pages of this thread we'll get some flight reports.

Hey Wayne,
I'll pester David to come practice with me at Westerville. I am planning on quite a few IMAC contests in and out of Ohio this year, so I am certain we will cross paths.
I flew my first two last summer- one at Grove City and one in Lebanon Ohio. Was alot of fun. Many of the guys I see at the golf dome flying foamies. Should be some fierce competition in the lower ranks - Basic and then sportsman. Great fun at the events and lots of good people.
I am actually looking forward to flying my first "Unknowns" in sportsman. That has got to be nerve racking! At Lebanon, in sportsman last year, only two people actually completed all the unknown sequence without a zero. Watching was fun, but flying it will be even more of a rush.
Back to the Yak. I got a H9 Extra specifically for IMAC due to the increased size, but who knows, I might fly the Yak.
I flew the 68" Yak at Lebanon and suffered being tossed with the wind, and should have used a plane with heavier wing loading, but I still had fun!

Chip,
Lebanon was one of the one I didnt make last year.
Sportsman was definately the most competitive class last year in our region. At the Clinton summer meet I think there was over 20 guys just in that class. I know some have moved up so maybe it wont be as full as it was last year.
Your right, the Unknowns are the hardest part of the contest. Lots of fun though.
We have a great group of guys in our region that make the effort to attend these events completely worthwhile.

For those of you starting construction of your yak I updated the web site: http://extremeflightyak.shutupandfly.com/
It has lots of building tips and pictures from David - (Maudib). This should be a useful resource for people just getting started with the build. We are working on video taping the IMAC sequences and we are creating a new page for the Atlanta trip next week. Stay tuned and hold on for dear life..... Unfortunately for my profile, I see some full power blenders in its future....
This is what I'm talking about. http://www.video.shutupandfly.com/Blendage1.wmv
