Extreme Aircraft 34% Extra 300L
Anyone hear of this brand of model? Looks just like a Colombo Anderson, as does the Planes Plus and the Chip Hyde version.

RE: Extreme Aircraft 34% Extra 300L
The Extreme Aircraft 34% Extra is imported by Planes Plus and it is identical to the Planes Plus Pro Series Extra - same factory, same design. The covering scheme is different, a special design for Extreme Aircraft.

PP has a different canopy and hatch setup...I like it better, But I am going with the CHP Extra ARC, only because Aeroworks has them and they are only an hour away from me and they are the only ones that offer an ARC version.
I don't know about EA or PP, but with the CHP, you have to be real careful about the equipment you use or you'll hit 28 pounds - that's a lot of weight on 1780 squares. However, I must say that the airplane still flew pretty good, but you can "see" the extra weight in the air. Mine will be 24 pounds or less or I'll sell it and try again!

My CA 34% is 27 lbs and flies great on 1750 sq in of wing. Don't be too woried about one of these being over 25 lbs or so (unless you do only 3D). They will fly great for IMAC!

I am not too worried about getting it that light, though, as it should be quite possible. My buddy also did no weight savings...Dual CHP silent pipes, adds over 1.5 pounds compared to stock mufflers - Dual 2300 nimhs for the receiver adds about a half pound compared to a 4800 li-ion setup, and I'll save a couple ounces on the ignition pack, too. Those are the big weight gains. The next little things are stock aluminum gear, aluminum spinner, CF prop, aluminum main tube, steel tailwheel ass'y, and stock aircraft structure. So, I will definitely save at least another half pound by going with a CF spinner, wood prop, CF tube, and CF tailwheel, and I am undecided on whether or not to keep the aluminum gear and lighten it, or go CF there as well, and the wheel pants and wheels could use a diet, too.
I know I could just get a plane that already has the hi-tech stuff, but I am operating on a limited budget and I don't want another cookie-cutter covering scheme...I was pretty good at covering back in the day and would like to see if I still got the skills

And you just happened to take 2nd place in the 2004 Nationals and 2nd place at the 2004 Tucson Shootout with that 27 pound plane. I'd say it flew REALLY nice!!
On to bigger planes for the Intermediate class!!
See you in Tucson!!

And yes onto bigger planes for Intermediate! (See pics)
At any rate the 27 lb models fly great at sea level (I live 24 feet above sea level). It may be a different story at 7000 feet!

RE: Extreme Aircraft 34% Extra 300L
Has/is anyone using the CA Hinges that are precut into the surfaces for this big plane??
Will the CA hinges hold up ??? I am stumped. 7 CA hinges per aileron. Is that OK??

I hate having two threads on the same product...
I will be using CA hinges. I prefer them over everything. If you prefer dubro or robart, go that route. Just like every other hinge, CA hinges can be installed improperly and lead to failure. The biggest thing is making sure the glue wicks all the way down the hinge AND soaks into the wood. To do that, it is a good idea to drill a channel down the center of each slot to facillitate thta. A #40 to #36 drill would be ideal.

I know 2 threads is annoying. Does the Ch and PP version of this plane use CA Hinges also??
Also Bodyworks, would you use the CA hinges provided or use a "better" aftermarket hinge?? THe ones that come with this plane are the rectanglular type with cut corners and a slot cut out in the middle.

I will have to look at them to decide. I am sure they're fine, But I like the Sonictronic hinges for their slotted design, and I have heard nothing but good from radio south hinges, like these...

It sounds like the provided hinges will work fine though...

Dag nab it....I was just at the Hobby store , bought thin CA ....and a ROLL of Hinge material from Ohio Superstar Products
"Super Hinge Heavy Duty 10lb+ models."
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBN50&P=0
I was planning on using it and making extra slots for more than 7 slots. Just to make me feel better about it. I mean more can only be better, right? The ailerons slots seem very far apart....when compared to my EF Yak 68" for crying out loud. The 68" has t that many on IT's ailerons. Sheesh.
So, more is better , right?
