I chose the scheme simply because I couldn't find one, nor think of one that I thought would look better. Actually it was a very nice scheme to work with too. It shows up VERY well in the sky. I do have to thank QuiQue though, if he frequents the board, I have to say, this is one heck of a scheme. I've altered a few lines on it slightly due to size difference's between the original 37% plane, and this 27% plane, also there are some more graphics to be added.
I will post more pics later too. Preview here though.
Specs as follows:
Engine: BME50 running 22x10 ProZinger prop, taching at this point right at 6500r's.
Radio : Futaba 9CAP/PCM rec.
Servos : Hitec 605's-Elev, Ail. , 645-Rudd, 422-Thro.
Batt. : Hanger9- 1400mah, 1 ea. Flightpack and Ignition.
Covering: TF MonoKote---all iron on.

Other nicies....Dubro extra heavy duty servo arms, Dubro Superlite wheels, OhioRCSuperStar leaf-spring tail wheel bracket, Stans Cowling/Wheel pants. RocketCity hardware. Coated Kevlar pull-pull system, Coated Kevlar flying wires, so this alleviates ANY and ALL metallic material from any antennae area(actually from the whole plane), as well as weight savings...not to mention strength value.

Measures taken for weight reduction...opened up some of the holes in fuse, replaced spruce spars with balsa/carbonfiber unit's, all reinforcement was in form of carbonfiber or kevlar.

Finished weight: Right at 15lbs, with a calculated wing-loading of slightly less then 30oz/sf. She flies like that toovery easy plane to fly, I'm in love with this plane!! Won't hesitate to build another. I highly recomend it to those that have a few kits under thier belt. Excellent package.

EJB, the coated kevlar I got at Don's hobby in Salina,KS. He was very helpful. What I did origianally was get what he call's the "DHS" pull-pull kit. That comes with enough cabling(kevlar) to do a very large plane, and all the screw eyes to rig it as such. Well, in coming to do the flying wires, which this plane absolutely needs being an older flat-tail version, I inquired into more hardware, and getting the kevlar in bulk(by the foot anyways). The rudder system is 4/40 hardware, whereas the flying wires are 2/56 units(uses same cabling though). Which after exam, the 2/56 seemed to suffice nicely for the flying wires, and so far is holding up very well, as I do check it every flight, now I'm thinking if those cables come loose, I'm going to have much worse problems, as they seem bullet proof.

10 flights so far, and I've rung it out pretty good the last few.
Thanks for the compliments, they mean alot, as I did work hard, and am fortunate to have it.....and have it done at that.

I'm working on some more pics, I'm having shrinkage issues to work out,,hehe. soon though.

Default Midwest Extra lightening tips?

Hi there. I want to congratulate you on your beautiful plane! I would be very interested in your suggestions for lightening up the Extra. I plan on building one soon, and would like to go gas, so any weight savings is a big plus. I have read about replacing the heavy spar, and a few other mods. If you have time, please send me an e-mail or post what you did. I would really appreciate any helpful info. you have. Thanks, Mike

Another.....this is the rear undercarriage set-up....also...the bottom of the plane(wings/stab) is yellow at this point...which to me is like a beautiful blank canvas that I can adorn with checkerboard, or diamonds, or several other bits of graphic artistry...hehe. ..

I have to mention Arts hobby too, as they were instrumental in helping me with carbonfiber issues. Word is now that they have the kevlar too.

Hello Carlos.. I'll see what I can come up with... I do have the plans... Its a matter of getting them scanned and copied... I can probably do that at work.. Do you have PayPal? I'll get a quote on how much we're talking about money wise.. shipping won't be cheap either being out of the country... but again, if you have PayPal we might be able to work this out...

PS... talk about bringing back the dead... haha.. this thread is just a few months shy of 10yrs old... you must need those plans really bad.. LOL.. ... and yes.. I still have the plane in exact condition it was 10yrs ago... as well as another one I picked up thats in need of restoration.

Let me know though on the PayPal thing, and from that point I'll see about getting a quote.
