RE: Super Decathlon 96" ARC Giantscaleplanes
Dennis,
I purchased a Super Decathlon at the swap meet in Perry GA a few days ago. I've been trying to find out who makes it and maybe your thread has helped. It's wingspan is also around 96" but from the marking on some of the parts inside the fuselage, I was thinking it was probably built from a kit. One of the balsa pieces has "Pilot" stamped on it as though it was a brand name. Anyway, after I do some minor repairs, I plan to put a Saito 1.50 4-stroke on it. I have a Sig 105" Cub which I use to pull banners which has an OS 1.20 4-stroke and has plenty of power. The Decathlon will probably be a little heavier and have a little less wing area so I'm thinking the extra power will help.

Here is a link to a video of mine. Please right click and save target as.
It had a ZDZ40 sportsman on the nose. It was very scale power. If flew great. A little squirly on the ground but that is any tail dragger. I sold the plane after a couple of months. Just not my style. Love the plane (want a real one)
You can see more pictures of it on my site under my hangar. www.mikerc.com

The Pilot and Giant Scale Planes are the same design-- GSP used the Pilot plans and made only a slight mod on the wing attachment. Lots of wing and lots more drag. Mine had a 3W24 and was underpowered to the point of being scary. I don't think I would go with a 1.50--but that is just my opinion.
