I have to say. I just received my Yak today and all I have to say is WOW!!! Very nice job aeroworks!!!! I have the ne aerotech yak 54 and the quality of this plane beats it hands down. The aeroworks covering actually matches the painted pieces. And it is built strong. I would recommend the aeroworks hands down!! I am building mine this weekend with a 3W56B2 Twin. Will post pictures soon. P.S. you guys who are using the Da50 what size standoffs work 2.5 or 3"

edge,

I have the Aerotech Yak also after I strip it and it will get sold as I agree, the Aerworks Yak beats it hands down.

Before you through the box away look at the packing slip envolopes on the box. One contains an addendum describing the distances needed from the fireall but to actually answer your quest, the standard DA 2.5 inch standoff are the ones recommended.

I'm going to use the 3 inch one so I can replace the tailwheel with a CF model move the engine out 1/2 inch and put the rudder servo in the tail. Other than that, I'm going to use all the stock stuff as it is first class

If you find a buyer that would like a parts airplane we could sell them both. Ha Ha!

I actually may have one. I have explained to him all the issues I found with mine.

Anyway, this is the Aeroworks Yak thread and I don;t want to posion it by discussing a true POS

I am completely impressed with this one, good coveriong, great build quality, nice hardware and I could go on and on. Too bad I'm heading to Toledo tomorrow or I would have it together this weekend not that it would matter because it's supposed to rain all weekend starting tonight

Here's more pictures. I suspect that I will have to use the pitts muffler for added weight to the front end. I think if I were to use the standard muffler it would come out tail heavy...Any one using a standard DA muffler?????

You could also go with longer stand off's. That will keep it from being tail heavy. I went with 3.5 inch ones on my DA-50 for a 30% Edge to avoid the same problem.

I notice that 130oz minimum is listed as being needed for the servo's. The question I have is should I go with more?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

More torque is never a bad thing. I personally will be using 8611a's on 6 volt at roughly 250 ounce, at least that what JR says they are. I read where real world testing shows them to be more like 333

4 5945's on elevators and ailerons and 1 5955 for the rudder. Knife edge pop ups are going to be a snap!

Your opinions are welcomed.

Thanks

Received mine yesterday with some minor dents in the box. When I moved the box there was a lot of rattling inside so during inpection I found that the tape holding the wing tubes down had let go and they were sliding arund inside, but after inspection all is OK. THIS IS ONE NICE ARF. Not a wrinkle in the covering. Just waiting on the servos.

Started on mine last night got the Wings Completed and I am on to the Stabs this morning. I opted to replace the control rods with H9 Pro-Links. If anyone is going that route the size you need is 2-1/2" for both ailerons and Elevators.-J

Hey guys.just cruising through this thread and was wondering if anyone here has had or tried out a BME 50cc engine in this yak.............and if so , did it preform well? I think that the mojority of you have been using the DA-50 , but was wondering if any used the BME model?

Also.............i plan on getting this yak as well , as it seems that aalot of you say that the quality of this plane is very , very good. I was going to hold off until i get my motor , and was wanting to try out the new BME 55CC engine that is supposed to be released any time now. From what they say , it weighs in less than the 50cc model , and has quite a bit more power. Supoosivley up towards a 60-70cc engine...........i'll guess we'll find out , but that seems pretty bold to make that statement.

also.................For Mark here................Does the decals come pre-attached to the plane , or is it sent out all white , and waiting for us to put them on? I think i would actually like to get one of an all white version so i could do my own color scheme.

Now that several of us are building these YAKS (WHAT A KIT!!!) has anyone gotten to the point of deciding to have a pilot or not. I've got a 30% pilot but the cockpit deck and canopy seem to swallow the pilot. Looks like the pilot would need to be raised approximately one inch. Any suggestions or ideas?

I always recomend to go a little bigger on the percentage for the pilot. For some reason they never look right unless you go a size bigger like a 30% plane and a 35% pilot.

As for the custom color scheme we do not have all white ones but we do have a few ARC's in stock if your interested give us a call.

For those that did not make the show, what a layout AeroWorks has coming, very nice looking planes. I did order the Extra 260 50cc but they will not be ready for a few months longer. I asked Rocco about the pilot and he said the same thing as Mark, plus, if you are not aware. Aeroworks now has dash panels, nice ones, for this Yak. I grabbed one at the show.

Aeroworks is listening to us. They took all of the things they thought of after this Yak was created and things, we as customers have been suggesting, and now have incoorated them into the new line that is coming and all I can say is it is an impressive list of a small things that will make our lives allot easier in assembling these bad boys. Yep, read that as even easier. I actually did not think there was much else they could change to make assembly easier.

Mark,
Not to change the subject that much. I met your dad yesterday at Toledo, nice gentlemen[sm=thumbup.gif]. I hear you told him and Rocco about my wallet statement, I'm gonna get ya for that one J/K

You could get 2 smaller dubro tanks and stand them on their side right where the stock tank is. That Da is only gonna burn about 1 ounce of fuel per minute

Default RE: Aero-Works 50cc Yak

Just got back in form the Toledo show and my Yak was there waiting for me when I got home. My wife was the one that took delivery of it! Everything looks good no damage. I started putting the servos in tonight. Lots of new toys from the show came home with me and some where for the Yak. I talked with Rocco for about 40 min. and I have to say one thing he really wants to bring the vary best planes to the market for us all to enjoy. And from what I have seen he has raised the bar to a new level. The 100 cc and 75 cc plane look totaly first class. Get your name on the list you will not be sorry. He says there is more to come in the way of new planes but would not say what they are but for all you Biplane fans I think there is somthing for you on the horizon. After loking at the 100 cc Yak all I can say is I want one! I started putting the 50cc Yak togather to night and everthing fits tight and all seams and joints are perfect. I could not build it better if I tryed. I have a DA 50 up front with pitts muffler carbon fiber spinner and carbon fiber prop CP models 22*8. Servos are as follows 5645's on the elevator's and 5625's on the ailerons and 5955 on the rudder. I'm using the IC4 servo isolater and 2700mah Nmh battery paks 6v for servo power and 4.8 on the reciever. I will give total wieght when its all done
