Thanks for the information. My DA50s with Slimline pitts usually tachs around 6K, depending on prop.

Would you know if the 50 cc pefa canister from 3w would work well for this? From the 3W site I found only this description:

typ max ccm / max cui Anschlussconnection mm / in Duchmesser / diameter mm / in Länge / Length mm / in Gewicht weight g / oz

M 50cc / 3.05 cubic, 25 / 0.98 connector, 55mm/ 2.16 diameter, 375mm / 14.76 length, 190g / 6.7 weight

I know the MTW and KS canisters work well but have a line on the 3W one and no information beyond that.

The haeder recommended somewhere earlier in this thread is something called a '2.5 drop', which I assume can be easily ordered from TBM, Troy or such
?

Hey there,

I'm using a KS Canister and header on my DA 50 in my BME Yak. I'm taching at over 7100rpm with a 22A Vess Prop. For me you can't beat the sound of a canister exhaust. It weighs the same as a Slimline Pitts smoke muffler..

Yarom,
You should be able to get your header from Troy Built Models. Thats where I got my setup..

Frank

Hey HNPower
I sure can, hope this helps... Where you see the tywrap, that now has a piece of silicone fuel tubing around it. Just in front of it I made a cradle and also put a piece of tubing around that for vibration..

The MTW and KS canisters are three chamber silencers I belive, to get the same type of increase in performance without an undue increase in sound you need a similar spec, I know nothing of the Prefe cannister, but I know a man who would, go to the Gas Engines Support forum and look for Pe Rievers he inports all sorts of engines into Holland and is very knowledgable on all things silencers, if you can't find him on Gas Engines go to MVVS Support site.

Hope that helps

Frank,
I see you had to cut the header down a bit. Did you do anything to the end to flare it again? If not, how is it holding up? thanks.

Hey Steve,

I did'nt reflare it or anything. Yeah I had to cut almost 3" off of it. I heated up the coupler slipped it on and put the clamps on it and it hasnt slipped off.Even with the clamps off I cant pull it apart very easy..

xtraflyr, I have a MTW canister and a 25mm drop header. The header didn't fit. What header did you use, no drop with flex ? Anyone ?

On my Yak I have a 1" drop flex header. Not sure if this will work on the Extra though...

Hope this helps.......

Another vote for; Header and drop required and which canister?

They make a TD75 (2" Dia.) and a TD75K (2.5" Dia.) and Comp-ARF has a header for the DA-50 and the 2X2 Extra, no flex and a nice tight turn, zero drop I think.

Hi Guys,

Here are some pictures of one of the Extra's with the Canister installed. This is a 25mm Drop flex header, and an MTW75 front exit canister. 1.3” had to be cut off on the header. You may need to sand off the lower left corner of the engine box side for header clearance.

HEy Ken,

How is the Canister attached in the fuse? Do you just have a tywrap with silicon tubing around it?

Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank,

It was done like the picture I posted only for a single can. Just made a former from light plywood and cushioned it with tubing.

Ken, a couple of questions:

Who makes the header?

Did you switch the carb on your DA 50 for a reason? Mine all have the carb and choke arms on the other side...

Thanks.

Hey Yarmon,

It looks like he has the same header as I do in my Yak,the KS one..

My carb on my DA is the same direction as yours. I sent mine out to DA to get some other work to it. And the carb was in the same direction as I sent it to them. So I guess it doesnt matter. My friends DA is the same way as Kens..

Thanks Ken,
I was thinking about doin something like that. My tywrap method works ok. But if the Canister gets to hot the tywrap will melt..

Yarom,

Frank is correct, it is a KS header from DA. Also the newer DA's all come with the carb in that position but like Frank said...it can be reversed.

Strange, I have a 25mm drop flex header and the MTW75 canister and I couldn't get the header to fit. It seems that the 25mm drop is too much. I measured the drop required for the MTW canister is about 10mm. I must be doing something wrong.

Test flew my Extra last weekend with the slimline wraparound muffler. Wow, this airplane is great 3D performer. Really like it, hovering and torque roll is really easy. In fact, it is easier than my 33% edge and comp. arf extra.
Engine is still brand new, may be I'll break in with the slimline muffer and find a way to adapt my MTW cannister later.

What did you end up using?
I see headers at zero drop and at 25mm - nothing in between.

I used the slimline wrap around muffler for maiden flight, couldn't wait. I'll find the correct header later. May be I'll get the KS header from DA like the one Ken used.

I believe Ken said it earlier.. He used in the pictures a 25mm drop flex header and the MTW 75 front exit Canister.. If thats what is pictured then it will work..

Hi, can anybody tell me the location of the centerlines on the firewall. I have one that is not marked.

Thanks.

ORIGINAL: Ken-h

Joe,

I don't have a good scale for weighing the parts so I'll have to give you an AUW when I'm finished. I'll have John weigh it since his is right on. Having both the Yak and Edge, this one seems lighter. In fact...I am a little concerned at this point maybe ending up a little nose heavy because its so light in the rear, we'll see.

Firewall is mounted and perfect for the DA50 with 3" inch standoffs. The right thrust is already built in and requires no measuring to install. The firewall was pre-marked for the thrust line and engine centerline.

I pulled the engine and servos from my Edge so everything is extremely broken in.

YAROM,

Firewall: Some of our firewalls did not come pre-marked as stated in the manual. Even if you received a marked firewall it’s still a good idea to check these measurements prior to installation.

To find the thrust line, measure 75mm or from the bottom of the motor box and firewall and draw a horizontal line across the front of the firewall. Next, measure and draw a vertical line down the center of the firewall. Draw another line parallel to it 9mm to the left of your centerline to create your offset centerline. Now apply the template over the horizontal and offset centerline as stated in the manual.

DA50 Template: Please measure your template included in the manual prior to using it as a guide to install your motor. Failure to check it could cause you to incorrectly drill the holes for motor installation.
