I"ve been flying mine quite a bit and am suprized at how tight the wing tube still is. Its still a nice snug fit. I've had to add CA by now on other planes.

Steve,

Explain the add CA ? Do you brush in a thin layer of CA into the Wing Socket until the Wing Tube fits again?

Yes, I use thin CA and a Q-Tip or other apicator and slowly build up the surface. Some times I'll do the socket tube and some times I'll do the spar tube, or both if its bad enough.

Any one have any trouble with the landing gear starting to crack? We do not have the smoothest field where I fly. I suspect that is what is the problem. Trying to find some thing different to replace it with. If not I will just order new one from PAU. Still waiting for the motor to break in. My DA 50 still has the whop whops. If that does not clear up soon then I will have to try some of the mods I have found on hear. Hopping that it is me not tuning right and I only have 1 gallon threw it so far. Still very new to the gas engines so it could also be a tuning problem.

I've had some cracking issues also, so I installed a wire between the wheels about 4" up and the gear is holding up fine now. I do want to go to a carbon fiber gear soon just to save some weight, not that its a problem now. I'm using carbon on other planes and I like it. I use a wire on them also. The best is to drill and install a couble 4/40 eyelets about 4" up from the wheels, then use some HD pull pull kevlar cable to keep the wheels from spreading too much on landings. Works great and its light.

I'm not having trouble with the gear itself, but the gear box seems to be coming loose. The covering around the gear plate started tearing this weekend so I guess I will have to open it up this week and secure it better. The plane has never had even close to a rough landing and flys off a smooth fabric runway, so I guesse it is from vibration mainly. I got my second set of wings going and am having the same problem, a piece of a rib fell out of the wing this weekend again so I guess I just fly the dang thing to hard. I guess IMAC is just to hard on these things you know ( with the occasional wall, climbing inverted spin, torque roll, hover, etc.) but nothing like in the video on the website. I am going to just keep flying it until the darn thing fails and I have to retire it permanently. I love the way it flys and am not going to get another set of wings, just to much work to get them prepared. As far as the gear cracking, I wouldn't go with carbon fiber on the rough stuff, it has a tendancy to break instead of just cracking or bending like aluminum or glass. I bet you just have a faulty set of gear and should just replace them with stock in my opinion, a broken gear leg would probably just about total this airframe when it dug in. A great design and great flyer, but not so much great strength in certain areas and bad glue joints in most areas, but as I've said before, it is an arf if you want better, will cost alot more for a custom build job. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine, just seems to be more upkeep on this plane than others but hell, we need something to keep us busy during the week this winter. COme see us Justinand bring some friends.

If you can't see it, don't hand me the controls!!

[X(]Wheels? What are you guy replacing them with? I have gone through 2 sets. Being new to the heavier planes I just don't know what to replace them with.

Hey Justin, happy thanksgiving, I replaced mine with the sullivan skylites and they seem to be pretty good. They will still deform if the plane sits on them for very long but quickly go back to their original shape. I like them as they are pretty light ( not as light as stock, but the stock was crap, destroyed just from sitting on them while building) and seem to be tough to. Mine are getting some wear from the wood plate inside the wheel pant rubbing against them, just to lazy to fix it right now, to many other things going. Take care, see ya soon for the IKAYA contest

The ones with aluminum hubs hold better and are twice as expensive.

Otherwise, for a light wheel that does not deform, use Kavan 4" with Aluminum hubs...

Guys I use the lightest foam wheels I can find, but I fly off grass. If you fly off pavement the foam won't last too long. My 100cc plane has rubber wheels but the weight of a 100cc plane is a bit much for the foam wheels I've tried.

Need more info on the IKAYA. Have not seen any more info on it since we all talked about doing it. Is it all ironed out for this next year?

Going to have to change the axles to put wheels on. That is ok. At least they will fit. Want to use the rubber. cant keep the foam from deforming. Also added smoke with a 16oz tank in the canister hole too. Added some fatty lbs to it but dang does it look goood and it still hovers.

PSP Titanium axles are amazing and the Sullivan Skylight wheels are very good - with or without aluminum hubs...

Anyone got reports on this plane after numerous flights such as durability, failures, problems besides the wheels? I'm thinking about getting one and would like the scoop on it.
Thanks

You should jump on it. At this price, basically a $320 discount (including the shipping), they are going to go fast...

Put on new wheels ($9) and you are good to go...

Madman,

I don't believe you took a chance at all!! I am sure you will be thrilled! Please let us know when it arrives, it will be good to get a fresh, new perspective (this thread is getting kinda old!).
