What Plane For New ZDZ 80
There have been a lot of people having good success with this engine so I would like to get a 33% plane to put one in. What plane do you think would be the best for this engine I want to do some 3D but it will be mostly for IMAC so I want close to unlimited vertical. I was thinking an Extra because I already have a Yak. What 33% plane do you have and how do you like it.

That super 80 would definitely be a good match for a comp arf 2.6 or dr hobbies extra, if you want to go composite. Also, Aviation Models has a 33% extra 260 coming out soon as well.

For currently available aircraft that have been flown by customers, I would say one of the Aviation models offerings is a good bet. But Aeroworks just got their container of 75cc Yaks in and it looks sweet! I was on the list for one but went with the 35% 260 instead. Top-notch quality. I must admit that the Aviation models are right on par, though, but will take a good 10 hours more build time.

I have the super 80 with 33% WH Extra 260. Great IMAC plane at 23 lbs.
The Comp ARF 2.6m Extra 330 with tuned pipe would be a great IMAC/3D plane too, il you get it under 24 lbs, with unlimited budget.

I'd go for the CA 34%. It is a very easy build (sheeting is done for you and parts are laser cut) and it will fly an IMAC pattern great. Partly b/c its fuse is as long as most 35% planes but the wing area is smaller which will give it less drag and weight making it easier to pull around in the sky.

Isn't the CA 34% a bit big for the ZDZ 80. What is the wingspan? I was thinking only 33% planes would have enough power with the ZDZ 80 and anything bigger would need a 100cc.

CA 34%
Wingspan: 103 in.
Wing Area 1783 Sq. In.
Length: 98 in
Precision Aerobatics 35%
Wing span: 106.4"
Length : 98.5"
Wing Area: 2127 sq.in
I have found that most of the the 33-35% models that are over 100" have as much or more wing area than the CA which will just mean less drag and a better flying plane for an 80 without giving up the length on the fuse to keep the same moment for precision flying.

RE: What Plane For New ZDZ 80
I'm flying a WildHare 33% 260 with an original ZDZ-80 on a JMB cannister and Mej. 26x10. This is my primary IMAC plane. I fly Intermediate in the North Central region. This combination is perfect! It flies very large and light. It draws very straight lines with little correction. The 80 is more than enough on verticals, snapping 45 uplines, etc... that intermediate requires. The workmanship on the plane is outstanding, and Tom is a great guy to deal with.
I don't think you'd regret this combination!!

I was looking at the Comp-Arf and I was wondering if anyone has actually tried a 80 in the 2.6. It looks like most people use it in the 2.3 C-Arf. The wildhare look's nice but how does it 3D with the 80, Also do you have any vids of yours.

young-rc,
Unfortunately, I don't have any video of my WH. I can't really comment on the 3D capabilities of this plane. I just don't fly 3D....for me, I find more satisfaction in drawing that perfect line.
You can find a few videos in the WildHare support forum in the 260 pictures thread. Ask around in there about 3D'n this design. There's quite a few guys in there who are more into it than I am.
Good luck with whichever design you choose!!
10's!!
