Default 1/4 Cap 232 Servos torque requirements.

07/31/2006

Hello All!

I posted the message below up in the Radio support forum and didn't get much feedback...

So I'm hoping for better luck here!

Basically I'm building a Midwest Cap 232 and I'm planning on using it for a sport flyer or maybe IMAC... So I was wondering what are the control surface torque requirement so I can plan on what type of servos I'm going to use...

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hibrass

Hello All!

I'm trying to determine the servo Torque requirements for my Midwest 1/4 scale Cap 232. I'm at that point were I really need to start planning for the type of servo I want to use in the build... Right now I would like to run a single Rudder and Elevator servo and one servo per Aileron...

Any suggestions will help.

Thanks,

Hibrass

I fly the 80" H9 Cap, basically the same size. Plane weighs about 14 lbs. It has servos with 88oz/in of torque(plastic gears), except for the rudder, it has 155 oz/in (and metal gears). You might want to look into metal gear servos all the way around. I am upgrading them as my budget allows.

I have Hitech 5645's all around on my CAP232 1/4 scale. They work great. You want at least 100 oz-in metal gear. I prefer 150 oz-in as a minimum.

I second the 5645's, great servos for the price. I have used them in a 27% and in the wings of a 35%er with excellent performance.

I'm going to third the 5645's. I have them on a 34% Extra and I've leaned pretty hard on them and they've held up awesome

BTW: they're on elevators and Ailerons

At 3 oz each where would you mount them? Seems to be enough torque, a little low to split between elevator halves, but it would work.

Joe,

I'm not sure where I will mount them yet... The plane will have a Brison 2.4 gasser so it kind of depends on how it balences out in the bones... They are heavy little monsters but strong...
