Default 540 edge 73inch by lanier

HI GUYS,
I have just purchased the run out lanier 73 inch 540 edge and I was wondering if anyone out their could advise me on what brand and model number of servo's that would be best suited to this plane. Also I was thinking of putting a ys dz140 motor in it do you think this would suit this plane.

Regards
ANDREW ( AUSTRALIA ).

It all depends on the weight. The 140 DZ has monster power on 30% nitro. The price tag is just as monstruous!!! I have the 140 DZ and the crank broke in half. The repair costs and fuel for one season purchased me a brand new ZDZ 80 RV with canister muffler, drill jig, props, oil.............

From that, I would suggest you to use Hitec 6975 servos all around. They use coreless motors with Karbonites gears. I use the 6965 in my 11.5 lbs Cap and for the rudder I could use a bit more torque...

Why not the 160 DZ.

Thanks for that advise 3D JOY. I have only been flying 40 and 60 size planes up until now and this is the biggest plane I have ever had so I am happy to recieve any advise.

I've been flying an Aeroworks Edge with a 73" wingspan, 10.5lbs with a Saito 1.50 for many years now. I started with standard Futaba 148's and then went to Hitec 635's (with a 645 MG on the rudder) because I bought them for another plane and then found out that when coupled to a gas powered airframe they experienced failures in the gear train/output shaft. I'm not a 3 D'er but the above setup has never given me any problems.

That would make a much cheaper setup.

I stated what I think is best because the best engine was proposed.

As I said, weight is key in this kind of setup. I doubt that the Lanier will get any close to the lighness of the Aeroworks. You are more looking at 12-12.5 lbs IMO.

If you have one of the newer JR radios with the 811 digitals, those servos would handle the plane for most types of flying just fine.

I flew one of these and loved it. I had a YS 120 in mine. For servos I ran JR 4721's. I ran a single elevator servo with the MK Bellcrank. Keep the weight down as much as possible. Mine weighed in at 10 lbs. Most people that were not happy with them had heavy planes.

I used to have the Lanier 540 and it had a OS160 in it. I flew my first few IMAC contests with it, and it was great.

I forget what servos were in it. I sold it and moved up to larger planes.

For the money it was a great airplane and I learned alot with it.
