You just had to show it off didn't you.............
Looks good!!! What engine are you going to use? Does Bill O have something to go in it? Who's control wheels are those?

It's not going to work Michael. I know you are just trying to mimic the Z on the fuse to the fan tail covering scheme of mine. But, I have proof that mine was done first. When this months issue of High Flight comes out, the cover shot will spoil your ruse. I'll have my proof that I was first
Can you figure out why I like your scheme so much!
I like the rudder setup. Slick. How is the wheel at the tail secured to the rudder? It appears that the center is on the hinge line, so I am assuming there is a post that acts partly as a hinge at the bottom, or its just secure there. And there is a bolt, pin, or something like that further back that goes into the rudder itself? Is that a good guess?
I'd really like to hear how you like it once you fly it for a while.

Extra 330
Hey sfaust.....
I am mglavin's son....I helped him in deciding the final scheme for the Extra . We basically used Hurly's fuse design except for some modifications like the color bars both wrap around top of the cowl , and some other small changes . Also we basically had the wings and tops of the horizontal stabs done in the same pattern as McConville's Extra but in the Hurly colors . There is also no gold on ours . On top of that the bottom of the plane has 1 red panel , then 1 blue panel . So anyways my point is there are many differences the color schemes but many similarities .
And ACTUALLY Mike Hurly owns the rights to the Z lightning bolt .

40% Carden Extra 330S big rudder wheel pull system
Very sweet set up. Is this a new type of set up? I've heard of using wheels before, but haven't seen any in use. Not that I've seen that many BIG planes, so just wondering.

Real sharp plane! Nice looking pull-pull. Where did you get those wheels? I guess there's no offset in the system?
BTW, I thought Quique originated the "Z" thing?!

I was ribbing Michael, only because they are so similar. I should have thrown in a few more smiley faces just to be sure he knew this, but I though he would based on past exchanges.
I actually stole the covering idea from another plane I saw a couple years ago, a Giles 300 at Westport NY fly in. I certainly can't lay any claims to any of the covering on this one. I liked it enough that I coped it almost verbatim, which is something I rarely do. I like coming up with my own schemes. After all the building, its a high point for me.
Sorry if I threw you off a bit there.

I don't have much info on the rudder system. It's new to GS aerobat's but many have used similar ideas on smaller planes for years. I'll see if the originator wants to come out of the woodwork...
The rear wheel is bolted to a ply plate. The center hole is indexed on the hinge line pivot point. NO cable slop with this system.
The Extra is being built by some guy from Illinois that likes JR radios and answer's to the nickname junior [JR]... Junior is a professional level builder and he knows how to cover and paint em too.
The color scheme was kinda of conglomeration of various models I have seen. As my son suggested the colors were borrowed form Mike Hurley's Extra with a similar lightening bolt and the colors wrap up and over the top of the cowl. The wing and stab tops scheme is borrowed form Mike McConvilles latest Extra's as seen at the TOC... Not exactly like Stephens but darn close. Stephen must have intercepted my coded emails to JR. and feverishly went to work to be the new guy on the tarmac... Of course he had to change it a little, otherwise the SAP [Scale Aerobatic Police] would have to look him up...
Power is provided by Desert Aircrafts 150 and PeFa cannisters. Hitec servos from one end to the other. Super Battery Packs lithium-ions with multiple power leads, redundant power system with fail-safe switched regulators that feed either of the two Futaba 9-channel RX's.
Billy at Taurus Engines does have a NEW TSS-144 behemoth. I haven't played with one yet...

GS pull pull wheels on mglavin's plane
Hi all,
I had the wheels made by a Friend of mine. They are completely linear NO SLOP. The rear wheel is bolted to a 3/8" ACP plate with 4 - 6/32's. The plate is pinned to the rudder with 1/4" dowels about 4" long. The inner wheel is mounted and hooked up just like any other tiller bar would be. The inner surface of the wheel where the cable rides is 4".
If anyone is interested in buying a set let me know and I'll find out the availability and the price.

Well I hate to break it to all of you, but Quique Somenzini does.
Nice plane though Josh and Mike, how close are you to flying it?

Hey Acroman,
The plane is a little less than a month from completion so probably about a month and a half untill its airborn .
And yes I know that Quique Somenzini started the lightning bolt trend .

40% Carden Extra 330S big rudder wheel pull system
It's really hard to say who came up with the z fuse pattern. I see it on SOOO many airplanes out there now. I've got a 40% Carden Extra going together and I went out on a limb to come up with a totally different scheme. I think it's very risky doing it this way and I hope it comes out good. I'll post alot of pics when the 330 is done on a thread here on RCU.
