Hi,

I'm looking for a 50cc yak, which would work with the DA 50R. I know there are a load of Yaks out there right now, but i'm looking for the best out of the best.
So0o any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks

#1 "THE BEST" is personal preference.
#2 you should let people know what type of flying you like to do.
#3 price range?

There aren't ANY that you read are to be avoided... and each one has a decent following by their owners...

I do know you have a decent Extreme Flight distributor in the U.K., and that might have some bearing for you...

Otherwise... QQ, EF, PAU, Aeroworks, Aerotech, SD Models, Ultra RC and others...

Has anyone flown the Aerotech 50cc Yak before? If yes, how well does it fly?

And also, i fly 3D and Pattern more than IMAC. My price range for the kit will be 360.00 - 600 POUNDS (i dnt know how much that will be in $)

As far as specific airframes... you'd be better off researchign each one individually by searching for threads specific to eachplane... you'll find build photos, videos and any things to watch out for...

Current sxchnage rate...

600.00 GBP = 1,170.12 USD

1 GBP = 1.95020 USD 1 USD = 0.512767 GBP

If your price is for ARF only (not outfitted) you have the world at your feet... if that's completely outfitted... you're going to have a tough time...

J

I have flown one with a DA 50, it's a little heavy, but fly's well.
3-D is OK, but again weight means it is working the motor hard in the hover.
If you can wait a short while there is a new Yak coming that I would be happy to talk with you about

He he.. What a loaded question. It seems everything is about Yaks these days...

Reading on RCU, it seems the highest quality and most expensive Yaks are the EF 88" and QQ 86". Both very complete and extremely well engineered. The QQ will end up slightly lighter but the EF is a huge aircraft and very scale.

The Ultra RC 87" is not far behind since it emulates exactly the old EF 87".

You then have a solid middle pack with about a dozen relatively high quality ARFs, all between $500 and $600. Most of them are between 84" and 87" and tend to build a bit heavier by a pound or two.

On the bottom end, you have some lower quality Chinese direct imports, still at the same size. I will not name names...

You can also go lower in size and put together the Great Planes Yak, which I hear is really nice and will fly well with the DA.

As I said, the QQ is in top spot, but more expensive than other ARFs.

There is already a build thread on RCU and a movie posted on the QQ site.

If you want to limit expenditure, the best way to a quality plane would be the Lanier ARFs. They are very well built, can be flown with a DA-50 and end up around 18lbs, which is not great 3D, but still a very high quality product. I believe they can be found for closer to $400 these days.

Lanier has just replicated the 30% Edge and the Yak in 35% recently and they are about to go to market - perfect combintation with the new DA-85.

Anything else that is both in this size and quality level, is closer to $600.

I went with the QQ Yak. Only problem...they won't be here until mid March. I think it's the best plane for a 50CC engine. (at least as far as Yaks are concerned) The EF isn't really a 50cc plane. It's too heavy for that (1-2 lbs heavier than the QQ) It's a proven design by an excellent company.

I think in these bigger planes, it's a good idea to go with the best ARFs. Certainly QQ is considered one of the best. I think the EF is also...it's just not really a 50cc plane. Probably a 60-80cc plane from what I can gather.

Thanks
Barry

Don't forgett you guys that the £ is very strong against the $ at the moment almost 2:1 so the exchange rate plus VAT plus carridge still is a huge saving on what we are buying from Europe and the Middle East which has all of the previous added on and then a middle man and possibly a retailers mark up.

I live half the time in the UK and the exchange rate is now over 2:1. That's what I am getting right now.

Not a long time ago it was $1.50 and even less.

I want to thank the current administration for devaluating our currency by an unthinkable percentage in a short 5 years...

Barry, the Yak IS a 50cc plane, I don't know where you are getting your information. Set-up with a stock muffler the plane can easily be built at 17-17.5 lbs which is right in line with all of the other 50cc Yaks on the market, difference being this Yak will dwarf the other 50cc planes.
20 of the Yaks just shipped to customers so there will be plenty of weight and flight reports posted soon.
You guys in Europe and the UK who are interested in the Yak please contact Mr. Daniel Roser at www.freestyle-rc.co.uk
His shipment of Yaks should be arriving any day now.

Well we have established that the exchange rate is approx 2:1 it will be interesting to see what Freestyle are going to market this at.
