I hope I can avoid that! I used heavy duty 1/4 scale dubro hinges and added quite a few more than called for. I also pinned both sides with toothpicks. Sorry about your loss. Did you seal the gaps in the ailerons?

Jerry, would like have about 250.00 and buyer pay shipping. Everything is still in the plastic bags. I can send photos. I kept thinking I would get back around to it but I dont see that happening anytime soon. Looking at my receipt I have had it since June of 03. (Chief close out at 299.00)
That may seem a little high however I think it might be worth it since they are discontinued. Plus I hadnt even considered selling it til I read this thread and got to thinking someone should be enjoying it rather than it just sitting in the box.

What makes this plane so attractive is that
1. It is such a nice flying plane for 3D and precision. It is one of the best flying planes that I have ever flown.
2. It is a cap which are rather hard to come by these days in this size range. Everybody is on the Yak bandwagon.
If they do a remake of this plane here are a few things I would like different.
1. Two piece wing
2. Removable canopy hatch for access to the fueslage from the top
3. Slightly larger airframe (maybe 85-87" wings and about 1400 wing area) to make it truely suitable for a 50 cc gas.
4. Dry weight in the 15 lb -16 lb range would be nice on the larger airframe
5. The ability to choose from an ARF and an ARC

Just got back from the field and had a blast with my Cap. I finally got the pitch coupling dialed out today and what a difference it made in knife edge and point rolls.

Kent, Mine is 6 and 5 1/2 16ths or 6 and 11/32 from leading edge. I was going to move it back a little at a time but if yours is snapping I might leave it. Where is your C.G.?

I've got mine at 6 1/2" with no snap at all. That said, I built mine ultra light. It comes in at 14 lbs 10 oz. with smoke system.
So the fact that it does not snap and did not need a lot of roll/pitch/aileron mixing may be partly due to weight.
To give an example of what it will do, I can come straight down the runway at 20' 3/4 throttle, chop throttle slam the elevator full rate back to go into a wall, as soon as it's vertical slam the stick full forward and it will pivot 360 around the cg and back into a hover.
I'm not a great pilot, only fly 3 or 4 times a year (if I'm lucky).
It is also a very easy plane to fly knife edge and to do nice 4 point rolls with. Another manuever it does beautifully is a Lomczavak (sp?).
Yep it's a real sweatheart. It would be a complete redesign to do plug in wings and it would have to be heavier to do that. Same with the removable hatch. I wasn't going to add smoke, but I came out so tail heavy it was either put in smoke or add a pound of lead to the nose. Smoke is so much cooler!!!!

I've also played around with different C.G. locations and 6.5 is about perfect for 3D
and not bad for precision. I took mine all the way back to a little over 7" and it had a
tendency to snap more and was way too touchy. Like Scott said, there should be no snapping
tendencies with the C.G. at 6.5". It is one of the easiest planes to harrier I have owned. Pull back
on full rate (35-45 degree elevator) and it goes into a harrier or elevator depending on
throttle setting. I have a 30% Yak and have had a 31% AW edge...and this plane outflies
them both at precision and 3D. It's hard to beat a Cap 232 once you get the coupling issues

Hi Greg,
I'm running a BME 44. I swapped out all the bolts and screws except the shouldered screw for the pump cover with aluminum screws. With 20x8 Bambula and a CF spinner (lightened back plate) it was so light up front I had to add 12 oz of ballast. That's why I ended up putting a smoke system in. I'm also using the 120 size World models engine mount cut down to the bare minimum (this mount also absorbs just enough engine vibration).
That pump cover screw and the servo screws are the only steel fastners left in the plane...oh wait, I didn't change the "T" nuts either.
I like the BME it allows me to fly between 10 and 15 minutes on a 16oz tank, which also helps keep the weight down, and it's got stump pulling torque.
On changing out all the steel screws with aluminum on the engine, it was suggested by Keith at BME not to do that. He didn't feel the screws had enough holding power. So far I've had no issues at all.
All in all when I compared the weight of all the fasteners I replaced with Aluminum it came to a little over 1.5 lbs. I was pleasantly supprised by that.
I'm also running a LiPoly 1,000mA ignition pack, and a 3KmA LiPoly pack with regulators for the flight controls. That took a lot of weight away as well.
The smoke system is a Sky Writer with an 1,100mA NiMH pack mounted on a wood plate over the muffler. The tank ( I think 8 oz) sits on top of the gear plate cross the fuselage, so there's not too much change in CG full to empty. Some where is one of the threads on this plane I've posted some pictures.

Hi everyone!
I just got the 80" CAP 232 from a dealer here in Sweden. I also got a ZDZ 50NG that I was thinking would work fine in this aircraft. I´ve just started flying RC aircraft 2 years ago and this is my first giant scale. However I do have a 60" CAP 232 and a 65" Extra 300 so I´m no stranger to this type of aircraft allthough I´m not a superpilot either. I was hoping to put the aircraft together this weekend and take her up for the first time on sunday. Is there any building tips or other advice you guys can gimme before I start putting the aircraft together?

Instructions are great. Keep it as light as you can. There is a big difference in the flight characteristics when you start getting above 15 1/2 lbs. Read through all the other threads. There is some great information on building (especially in regards to rear carbureted engines.
