Lanier 94" Yak help
#126

da3 ended uo using 3/4" stand off (just goes to show cant believe all you read)could of gone 1/2 inch but with the engine in place plug caps touch cowl.gets worse when engine is moved further back.also move engine 1/8" to the right to compensate for cilinder placement .this will better center engine .i am sorry to tell you i think cutting some holes might be nessary.and with the engine further back witch would help ballance it would force you to cut your holes in the louvers.i dont think 1/4 "will hurt either way

just a little tip for engine placement if you use the large hole in the center of the motor mount on the engine .use a large washer to mock up a mounting point that can be bolted through the hole in firewall .this will let you trial fit your cowl without drilling once positioned ok drill holes with extended drill.hate missing the first time those extra holes realy bug me LOL

I told my brother and he also picked one up. I think he grabbed a Yak as well. At 300.00 Like D said, how could you not? I'm a very happy camper.

Man, I couldn't resist this one either. Yak on the table, two other giant ARFs in the shop, and now I buy this Extra! I hope I don't have buyers remorse
. Called and told my brother about it too ... haven't heard if he pulled the trigger also. $338 delivered for a 1/3 scale ARF can't be ignored! One thing does concern me a bit. This 94" Extra 330 was removed from the Lanier website before they even sold any as far as I can tell. This was about the same time as GP was buying them out. The Yak and Edge remained and are still on the site but the Extra was never put back on it. And just like the discontinued 87' Extra 330 .... its being sold for substantially less than the others. I hope there's not an underlying prob.
Also, this Extra does have a nice white/silver/red covering scheme .. but since its no longer shown on any sites I don't know what the underside looks like. I did see the underside when it was shown on the Lanier site last summer, but can't remember what it looked like.

What really surprises me is the lack of interest in the Yak and Extra. The Edge has 500+ replys. I always thought the Yak was more popular. Hope others don't know something we dont.[X(]
Omni Models is the only place I can find other than TH that sells the Extra. There isn't even a manual for it on Hobby's site. Although I'm sure the Yak or Edge manual will suffice. I really wish I could find more info on the Extra.

The lack of info on the extra kinda worried me as well, I just figured GP bought them out before the extra got into full production. But judging on the quality of the yak, and that price, I am willing to take the risk. The way I see it, you'll probably NEVER see another airplane that size for that price again. Got plenty of time to buy equipment for them, but who knows when they'll finally sell out.

The lanierrc.com website is still up, and on the front page it has the "new" 21st Century ARFs. You'll notice an area of the page is blank. The 94" Extra used to be in that slot. I remember going there and looking at it, as well as all its particulars.
I also have an older magazine from last year that has an ad in it for the big Laniers and it has all 3 of them in it, and I remember it reading they would be available "Spring 2007". I'll have to look for that magazine again. Who knows ? ... Maybe when GP bought them out last summer the Yaks & Edges were already run and .. maybe they didn't want to accept an upcoming production run on the Extras ...
This is purely speculation on my part ... who really knows?
Also, in reading the huge, huge 87" Lanier Yak thread there was a "heads up" on the anti-rotation pins in the wings. One guy said he lost a wing when the anti-rotation pin was not glued in well and somehow rotated and wing came off. I believe it was a very isolated thing.

I too just ordered the 94'' extra. I have a zdz 80 Im gonna put in it when Im done flying my 94'' edge. Ill use the ar91000 and 5995 on rudder and plain old 5645's on everything else, two jr 2700nm 6 volt. pretty simple set up. I have all the lanier giant scale arfs except the stinger and the staudacher. I also have the goldberg 77'' yak and 77'' edge. Its funny all the manuals are exactley the same just a different plane. The hardware that came with the 87'' 330 wasnt that good, but for the price im not complaining just recomending not to use it.
All I did was buy the 87'' yak and since Ive gone plane crazy, it was less than a year ago and now i have six giant scale planes, thats a load of servos! luckily i have a friend who gets me them at cost. I wish I had time to do a build thread but Im too busy with my planes and my supercharged trans am. Anyway happy assembling all.
p.s check my hanger if you want to see all my set ups.

Sorry, can't remember that info. I'll try to see if I can find that magazine ad. I think it was between the squares of the Edge and the Yak. The Edge is 1682" I think, and the Yak is 1742" I believe. Wish Tower would put the info back online. They had the specs on their site ... up until about December.

man i have checked and checked cant find a thing on this plane .i can hardly wait till the first guy gets one and says .1300 squares & 35 to 45 lbs LOL.never bought a plane this way before.normaly go over specs for a month before i bite. (sure its fine just kidding)

Ordered the Big Lanier YAK, gotta get an engine for it now... don't know if a Fuji BT-86 will pull it well enough, 4,000 ft. altitude here, 15% or more power is sapped away. Also the FPE 5.8 looks pretty good at $699.00 as well...

BTW, I emailed Tower and asked for the specs and the manual for the Extra. They said they don't have any info on the plane. I found that to be quite odd.[&:]
