Default Sig Extra 300 & DZY 48 Twin

I just finished coaxing a DZY 48 twin into my Sig Extra. Why do I need them darn spark plugs anyway[sm=lol.gif] I hated cutting the cowl [sm=cry_smile.gif]but I don't think it looks to bad. It's only money.....

I got the plane and the engine super cheap. I have to get the batteries and one servo for the rudder then I can get an idea of the wing load ..I hear these planes are on the heavy side but this motor is pretty light so I don't think it will be to bad. I just want it for a good sport plane anyway.

Wow, thats a tight fit!! CC wise it should be a good match if its light. I put a G45 in mine and it was a little on the porky side. It flew good, but as krayzc said, the elevators are a bit small for 3D stuff.

Looking good Beef! Looks better than we thought it would. Do as Krazy says and enlarge them elevators. You ain't got nothing to do anyway but build.

That's ok with me I got my other planes for 3d.. Going to get a some batteries for my digital scale today so I can get an idea of the weight. Couldn't get a rpm reading because I was in the basement and the lights screw up the reading. I'll get it out in the yard when this weather breaks..We are in a cold snap right now...

Well I took her up for the maiden flight today and she flew great , only a click of up and right and she was hands off.. A tad bit nose heavy but not enough to worry about on a maiden. Great nife edge and killer blenders , it did have a bad tendency to snap and roll over in a heartbeat when pushing the rate a bit, I don't like that disconnected feeling when the plane is wollering around after a movement . She Weighed in at 14.2 lbs. I think it would have been a much better flyer at 12 or so lbs . The DZY 48 Twin ran great and had plenty of power for this airframe and was about 4 ozs lighter than the Firstplace engine that they suggest so I don't know how you could shave more weight with a gas setup. A well built plane, That wing by itself was 3.2 lbs. Got about eight or so great flights on her then she went into a stall spin out above the corn field and hit the deck ............. Looking back I probably could have prevented it if I had dailed the rates back a bit. The airframe was the only loss, thankfully the soft field helped save everything else. Oh well !! on to the next one..
