I just bought 33% extra arf (aeroworks) now I need to decide BME,DA 3W,ZDZ. All good engines I'm sure. But which 100cc class engine is the best match for this plane. I don't want to go with a lighter engine only to have to add nose weight. It would be nice if it fit in the cowl too! Anybody flying this plane, I could use a little help.

I built the kit version, not the ARF. Mine balanced just right with a BME-102. I had added nose weight to get it to balance per planes, but after I flew it a couple times, it all came off and was just about perfect. Slightly aft CG, but not too much. The power was good. If I was doing it all over again, I'd probably drop in a DA-100.

Not available. Not in production. Bunch of guys standing in line waiting. Reminds me of waiting for a CTA bus to come along when it's 20 below zero.

We have the AW Extra with a ZDZ 80 single.I know what your're thinking, but believe me it's a great combo, lighter and cheaper.Although it is not as powerful as my DA-100's it does not lack for power at all.Ours came in at 22.6 lbs RTF,less fuel. The plane is awesome. You really should consider this option. We mostly fly 3D,and down low and it is not scary at all.
Have you seen Wayne's video of his Cap with the ZDZ,I think they are at www.rcsites.net/wgeffon

I posted comments on your other thread,We put the ZDZ80 single with rudder servos behind the wing tuibe and did not any extra weight. It seems to be a little tail heavy but the plane handles it fine, not scary at all.I don't believe any of the twins will fit without cutting spark plug reliefs.Checkout how I mounted the ZDZ,I did however have to cut a plug relief also. But it came in at 22.6lbs RTf,less fuel.

You really can't go wrong with either of the BIG 2....DA or 3W
BME is a VERY strong competitor as well...Keith will soon be shipping out the new 110 XTreme engines. I won't go into what is just hype right now, but I would think it will be a second to none engine

Looks like 3W is going to be it, now what to do about mufflers and prop to go on this combo is my next question.I want this to be as quiet as possible. 2 or 3 blade? dia/pitch? Brand?

Nice install on That ZDZ.Tell me about the standoffs. Why is one servo wire twisted in the rudder setup? RFI? Are you twisting all the servo wires?

I have the kit version, 26lbs. 3W 106 with Menz [email protected] puts it into orbit like no tommorow.

The standoffs are from www.aerografixs.com he makes them to order and will put the thrust in them if you want. That is what I did,I built the firewall square and had Roger make the standoffs with 2.5 degrees of right thrust. They are taped 1/4-20 on either end so there is no need for long bolts. The reason one servo wire is twisted is because one servo is newer than the other and Hitec now twist the leads for RF purposes.

I built a 33% 330L and installed the 3W 106 which is a great engine, but I had to cut the cowl for the plugs. The DA 100 won't have this problem since they are angled down which gives more clearance. If you don't have a problem with the plugs sticking out, the 3W is a great motor with a lot power.

Thanks I'll be sure to check it. Can you tell me how many degrees rt.thrust you have. I see prefab standoffs with 2 or 2.5 degree versions.

Dave,we used 21/2 on ours and it works well.I used 2.0 on my Edge with a DA 100 and I think the 2.5 on the Extra is a bit eaiser to TR,uses less rudder input on uplines.Check out www.swbmfg.com they have engine mounts with the degrees built in,it replaces the mount that comes on the engine. They also have probablly the best servo arms around.IMO
