Default 100CC PLANE ..HELP ME DECIDE..

Trying to decide on a new plane.. Will have a da100 and all servos.. I fly 3d and want somthing that has massive wing area for the weight and flys light.. I have narrowed it down to a few.. I would like a composite so I saw the airwild 33% extra 330 on sale at a good price.. However there isn't much info about them(tryed a forum search) and hd their edge and was way porky.. Comp arf it a little out of my range so if not the airwild I have considered the tt toc 35% yak, extreme flight 110 yak, the qq yak 101(need a da 85 for that), bme ultimate, or the wildhare 35% extra 260.. I know thats a lot but there are so many good looking planes..[X(]

I'm batting 0'fer when it comes to choosing a plane for someone else. Usually they already have a plane on it's way in the big brown truck when the question is posted here
There's some good info in this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8722167/tm.htm

All 3d? 35% W/H or PAU 36% Edge or Pilot Katana. There hasn't been an Extra yet that will out 3d an Edge. I wouldn't bother with another Yak unless it was a 55sp and OMP hasn't done much to prove theirs yet, leaving Comp Arf as the only proven source of a great flying 55sp.

I love the katana's.. I already have a 36% katana that I love trying 3d with and flies great.I also got two planes set up for imac. They cover that ground.. Want somthing that flies with precision but mainly a low wing loaded light 3der.. Thanks, guys!!

For massive wing area for the weight consider the Wild Hare 106" Giles G202. It's a very under-rated airplane.

http://wildharerc.com/downloads/vide...hare_giles.wmv

Here are a couple videos of the Giles. So smooth and stable yet extremely capable in 3D.

I'd vote for the WH Edge or the PAU Edge as well as the WH Giles. Got to beat on the earlier version giles and it really rocks, especially in tumble maneuvers

Thanks.. The new WH giles looks stretched a bit.. Does it have any of the tradition giles snap tendecies?? Is it solid in high alfa?? Harrier, ect.??

There is a very nice looking Comp ARF Yak SP-55M in the classifieds section right now, $2400 RTF with the DA-100, radio gear, etc. I realize you have all the rest of the stuff, but that is just a great price for that plane. I have flown an identically-prepared plane and it was very nice to fly.

As to the Giles having a tradition of being "snappy", I just don't understand it. My experience has been completely opposite to that view point. I think there were a couple of poorly-designed smaller Giles models in the past, and every subsequent design follows the same flight characteristics. In actuality a Giles should fly much more like a pattern plane.

I have the old 35% (92" ws) Wild Hare Giles and it flies just like a big pattern plane. It is very sweet in flight right up to the ragged edge of a stall. It landed smoothly and didn't have a tipstall issue except for in the high rate of pitch change stuff like walls, sometimes it would drop a wing.

However that was a 23#8oz plane with a 1540 sq in wing area. The new 100cc Giles is 40% scale, will come in around 25-26 lbs, and has 2000 sq in wing area. It should be a real floater. About 8% heavier with 30% more wing area.

As far as looking stretched, I believe Tom's new Giles is actually close to scale in proportion. The full-scale Giles has one of the longest fuselages in relation to wingspan of all the aerobatic planes. Again, I think some older designs have clouded the relationship a bit. IIRC the Fiberclassics Giles had a 110" ws and about a 91" fuse. To be scale it should have had a 100" fuse for the 110" wing. Wild Hare's giles has a 106" wing and 100" fuse, so it is stretched only 3 inches.

Good luck with your decision! There are a lot of great planes on the market right now, so this is a hard choice.

Thanks.. I know its not fair but I used to have a lanier 35% giles that was a brick.. It would snap, but actually flew good like a big pattern ship. The lanier and the old wildhare are very different for sure as the wildhare is loads lighter. This is a hard decision.. There are just to many..lol..

Default RE: 100CC PLANE ..HELP ME DECIDE..

A Giles can only become "snappy" when it is nose heavy, but that's true with any plane. The planes that established the snappy Giles moniker were 72" and under glow powered versions that were too heavy for the wing area and had the c/g provided by the manufacturers waaay too much forward of where it should have been. The kit manufacturers doomed the planes before they even got to the end user. Unfortunately those poorly designed, heavy, and innaccurate c/g planes have led everyone to believe that a Giles is a handful to fly and land. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have both Wild Hare's 35% and the latest 40% Giles. Easy planes to fly. If a Giles was snappy you would expect wing rock in a harrier. Doesn't happen, and the 40% is the easiest plane I have to hover with the minimum of input. You can almost set the tx on the ground and walk away once you have a hover established.

If you want massive wing area and incredible 3D, definitely have a good look at the PAU Edge.

http://www.flypau.com/html/edge_36/edge_36.html

2123 square inches and 26 pounds with a DA-100. $1000 purchase price gets you the plane with a full hardware package and carbon wing and stab tubes. Great-flying bird! The PAU/BME Ulty is also a great-flying machine and its price is very low for a plane of its size.

Not stretched, just about exactly scale. No unwanted snap tendency, solid as a rock at low speeds. Solid in high alfa, no wing rocking.

It really is a nice airplane, and less expensive than many competitors.

When faced with the same decision within the last week....today I ordered the Wild Hare 35% Edge. It looks good to me. We'll see, I guess.
Thanks

I know they are not composite, but why not consider Aeroworks new Extra QB? Also just wondering, why are quite a few people saying to stay away from Yak's?

Yaks have been way over done in the last few years. However the EF 110 looks very large and presentable..

It's Awesome.

I got one of the first ones last year and it's an awesome plane. It's just right for me. Light enough it's easy enough to move around and close to the size of most 40% planes. It flys like a dream. Absolutely the easiest plane I've ever flow to do knife edge loops with. I do them all the time in low rates.

I gotta say I'd never say to stay away from Yaks. I love them. And my Sukhoi was very similar to a Yak actually. I've had more Yak than any other plane (unless you count the UCDs) and I like them. But, Edges are nice also.
Thanks

Look in the classifieds!!!,,,,
I 2nd that comp arf yak... 2-of them for sale..... w/da100!!!! wow...... I would be alll over that.............

Also, take in consideration parts and access to them....

I believe that ALL the planes listed so far have Great support and part supply.....

You never know when you are going to do that dreded hangar RASH..... use a blow torch to dry glue on a cowl
"shrink it up like no bodys bussiness" and need a new one!..."DOn't ask how I know this"

THere are SOOOOOO many good planes out there right now......

My advice...... Get one YOU REALLY WANT>>>> not what someone else wants you to get......
Not one, just because it's 200$ off normal price or someother deal.....

You will thank me later....

Good luck....

Soo good that sometimes you may have a hard time getting it to snap just right, do to it's inharrent stabillity....
It will do everything in the book and then some....
personally,,,,,,,I have wanted to try the EF 110 yak... unreal...
But for pure looks and really neat hinges? The WH sukui 100cc redbull scheme..... really nice...
