What size 3 blade are you running on the DLE 111, and how do you like its performance?

Well, at least it appears there wasn't any damage from that wreck...

taildragger, I'm building the same plane with the same engine. I'm not installing can's but rather going with stock mufflers from DLE. Have you tested the decibel reading at 3 meters to see if it exceeds 98Db? Thanks

It is about time you started that build !!!
I have not done any sound testing, but can are much quieter than stock muffs. I have a MX-2/DLE-111 on cans (nice) and the MXS-R/DLE-111 on stock mufflers (naughty).

Hey Tony, actually I'm done with the plane except I'm trying to decide whether to put cans or stock muffler (DLE 111). My other large scale (100cc) planes have cans but I'm concerned about the CG on this one if I use cans. It looks like most of the headers and cans are in front of the CG and I might have to do some serious re-arranging of batteries or add lead to the tail. What do you think.
Tom.

Did you mount your rudder servos in the tail,, direct drive? If so you will be fine with cans. If you did the pull-pull rudder then a little ballast hidden in the stab tube works well too. Don't be too concerned about a couple ounces of lead.

Tony, I've decided to go with the same setup as you have on your MXS-R. I ordered the PT 25x12x3 prop and the 3 bladed carbon fiber spinner from Troy Built and straight mufflers. I noticed you have no cut outs for venting on the bottom of the fuselage. I assume the cowel venting is enough. Let me know.

The cowl venting is fine.

Tony, how did you measure the cowel for the muffler down pipe cut out for the DLE 111?

With the airplane inverted on on a stand/table, cowl off and mufflers on, make a template with heavy paper (like a file folder). Remove the mufflers and install the cowling and mark the muffler cut-outs.

Here are some photos using this method on another airframe.
