Thanks Tony I have been looking at your ideas.. is that 2-56 rod or music wire? Thought about wire and crimps with heat shrink. How many flights do you have on the eagle? did you have any problems with the set up? The 3w is heavy might need tail weight , or ppg clear for added weight. Thanks for scoop!

Really nice work, Tony. Did you make the flying wire attach fittings? What about the clevises? I would love to have some more detail on your work.

I've been wanting to start a biplane for quite some time now. I try to keep an eye out for hints and solutions to various issues such as the construction of cabane and interplane struts as well as the construction and attachment of flying wires. I have often wondered if I could somehow use bladed bicycle spokes for flying wires? Although the selection of spoke lengths is limited, they do seem to offer a more "to scale" look than round rods or small wire rope.

Great thread, BillyJ. Hope you get a lot of response.

spokes would be cool,, I built a Bob Dively Pitts years back and used 4-40rods with soilder clevis... was very heavy and did not like vibration, metal brackets would crack with G-62 on the nose. my buddy said Dubro makes kits for wires. I have all the brakets from GP pitts I had hanging around that I have mounted for functional wires.

How this for a similar view, the photo was taken 3/2006, flown shortly there after and continues to fly today without failure.

Here's a little better photo, Durbo 4-40 rod ends, Sullivan 4-40 solder ends drilled .040" with C&D lead out wire soldered into the end. The brackets are 1/16" aluminum sheet.

Thanks very much Tony for the help and info.. I'll go with about the same set up. Need to figure out how is the best way to set up aileron Y's etc. What size batts do you go with?? show us a pic

I have a single 4000 ma LiPoly pack, redundant switches and a home brewed powered wye. I'm using Maax regulators for this plane.

Powered by ZDZ80 RV with JBMcanister. You can see were the upper aileron wires meet the cabanes. I ran all these wires and rigging before the covering was started.

The plane needs more nose weight, the original construction had two Hitec 5945 on the rudder mounted in the rearin a push-pull arrangement, after two years I replaced these with a single7955 on pull-pull, made a small improvement. Still need more nose weight. Considering replacing the ZDZ 80 with a D&B 85 twin this winter, not sure however. By plane weights 27 pounds, it's not a 3D machine.

THanks again Tony! I might need tail weight with the 3w 100 . I made up my brackets for gear and cabanes struts this morning , I will show pics later . This is a big help on running wires and rigging. Looking at all the set ups on the net I might go with a smart fly bus to plug all the servo leads . There are so many ways and ideas with all these set ups still dont know what way to go.

Smart Fly offers nice products, I'm currently using their voltage regulators and pin switches inmy most recent builds.
The 3W100 will be nice, I think you will be fine with the weight.
