EXTRA DIFFERENCES
Okay, I have some questions regarding scale models of the Extra.
What are the differeneces between all the models? There is the 260 There is the 300 There is the 300S There is the 330S There is the 330L Can someone with knowledge of the differences, please explain in as much detail as possible. Thank you |

An Extra does not make a 330 and pilots (except modelers) dont talk about 330. Full scale aerobatic pilots/competitors do not call anything a 330, because there is none. Extra 300 is a 300. They may say its a modified engine Extra 300 with 330 hp or 350hp or something like that. No Extra has a composite fuselage airframe, it is steel tube. Parts of the emmpenage and the wing is composite. The "S" in 300s means it is a single seat. The "L" in 300L means its a low wing two (tandem) seat. All "L" have two seats. Any time you see an "X" after an S or L means "experimental" because the plane has been modified from the stock FAA Airworthiness Type Certificate to have larger control surfaces and more deflection and/or a modified/replacement engine. Hence it becomes experimental because it does not conform to the FAA granted type certificate and airworthiness certificate of the 300S or L. The larger control surfaces and engine change the handling of the original 300 s or L parameters. So they become 300SX or 300LX and are experimental. A 330 of any type does not exist. There is a 300s, 300sx, 300l, 300lx. Patty Wagstaff's Extra 300 and many others are classified as "experimental" on the FAA registrations and Airworthiness Certificate because of these after market modifications to a 300. |
