HELP: setting up kill switch
Hi Everyone,
Sorry about the blank i just posted, couldnt find the cusrsor. My question: Im setting up a3W 100ib2 with the 3W older ignition, it has a battery lead and a 3 pin connector to the sensor on the crankshaft, I also bought the greatplanes ignition kill switch, can i use this to have a functional kill switch and how do you wire it up or is there a pre-made unit that i should be using...basically i dont know how to tap into the module if possible..im looking for the most reliable setup possible...i didnt see anyhting on aircraft international's site or Cactus aviation either |
RE: HELP: setting up kill switch
I would not suggest utilizing Great Planes ignition kill switch. If I recall this is a mechanical micro switch with some leads attacthed to it. It was designed for weedy engines and such with magnetos I believe. That said if you could use the switch to turn the battery on and off. The problem I see is the mechanical action of the switch, together with the possibliltiy of generating EMI...

RE: HELP: setting up kill switch
if your engine has a battery powered ignition, you can use an optically isolated switch to switch battery off/on. does not have potential for rf interference. look here http://www.smart-fly.com/index.html

RE: HELP: setting up kill switch
Just a suggestion, instead of a kill switch set it up with the choke hooked up to a low end servo. You can kill the engine with the choke and it makes starting easier. Just hook the choke up to the gear switch.

RE: HELP: setting up kill switch
Use a combo charge/on-off switch harness.

RE: HELP: setting up kill switch
I use RCATS electronic switch and kill the negative battery lead. Works great!
