Slimline on the DA 50R

O.K., I got my DA 50R, and the slimline smoke muffler. :) One thing though, do I have to use the extra bracket that came with the muffler? And if so, whats the best way to do it if you don't have a torque wrench or the specs for the torque on the headbolts? I was thinking mabe I could shed some grams if I didnt really need it.

Use it, it helps the muffler from vibrating and loosening the bolts.
Use loctite to secure.
Torque the head bolt to 1/4 turn past snug.

I called DA. They say use it. The guy I talked to also preferrs the RTV silicone listed in the Slimline manual vs. the DA gasket.

As for locktite, not needed. It'll get really hot and not do any good. DA says (and you can actually see this) that the hole for the bolt is not perpedicular to the surface that the bolt head tightens down against. It is canted slightly to one side. Thus, as you tighten the bolt, the head flexes slightly to one side, producing the effect of a very strong lock-washer. Pretty snazzy, eh?

I can't wait for my WH to show up so I can get my engine airborne!!!
