RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

One more time.

distance from center of output shaft to hole in servo arm: 1-1/4"
general servo arm length: 1-1/2" (SWB) 1-1/4" (Air Wild) No Plastic arms!
Rudder: 1-1/2" DOUBLE arm

Yes, the Airwild arms are good stuff. I used the 1.25" ones on a H9 33% Cap, put 90 flights on it, and the guy who bought it from me has put over a hundred more.

Silversurfer is right - never use plastic or composite arms on a gasser. They're either too flexible or too brittle.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

Hmmm... the Extreme Flight YAK will be coming with carbon fiber servo arms (single truss for ele and ail, double truss rudder). Anyone used these before? Would you consider them "composite"?

I've heard some say that the AirWild arms are a little loose on the splines. My AirWild 3" (Extra 300S) rudder horn isn't as tight as I'd like. The SWB's (8611's and 5945's) and gold JR arms (8611's) seem to fit a good bit tighter.

BTW, for me:
3" Rudder
1" Ail
1 1/4" Ele

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

I suppose CF arms would be okay, as I know Chris wouldn't include them if they didn't hold up to his style of flying. I wasn't aware that there were any out there.

By composite, I meant those like the big Dubro arms, which are a disaster waiting to happen if the pushrods are not directly in line with the arms (ball links). I can break them in half with my fingers.

I've had the same experience with the Air Wild, and other noted arms. Others have been completly satisfied.

A control arm that does not fit extremely tight on the output shaft will permit quite a bit of slop, perhaps contributing to a future flutter problem. It will also cause excessive wear in the gear train of the servo, eventually leading to a servo failure. On any type of servo!

Bottom line, I like em tight!;)

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

The SWB arms are very tight. I don't really look forward to taking them off. I think you need a small gear puller to remove them.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

so tell me best arms for hitec and what lenght for wildhare extra spec.
3"for rudder pull pull
1.5 for elev
1.25 for ailer
will this give me 3d control throw??????
or all 1.5.???

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

I have 1 1/4" on aileron and elevator and they give me full throw. I have both the Airwild and SWB arms. The SWB are a much tighter fit.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

i read somewere that the 1.5 really is 1.25 where it installs and the 1.25 is 1"
dose that make sence//

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

Check out SWB! They now have locking servo arms. They look really nice and I think would be the way to go. To bad I already have all my servo arms :) We at least for this plane :)

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

I just got some nelson servo arms and the alum wheels to go with them... they look really nice and they lock onto the splines.

For both the SWB and Airwild arms, if it says 1 1/4", it's 1 1/4" from the hub to the center of the outermost hole.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

Air Wild 1.25" MLP arms for the 28% Wild Hares work best to get the 3D throws . . . .

Where do you get SWB arms? I will need some for my WH Extra.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

Silversurfer, are you saying that if a guy orders from SWB, get the 1 1/2" and if from airwild, get the 1.25" arm? I'm not understanding that. Why the different lengths? I'm ready to get servo arms, but I want the tightest fit possible, and when I measure from the spline shaft of my Hitech servo,1 1/2" seems too long? Am i missing somthing? Sorry for my ignorance.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

It's a small difference in the way the two manufactures produce and describe their product.

What you want is a servo arm that provides a distance of 1-1/4" from the center of the servo output shaft to the center of the hole that the ball link or clevis mounts in. With the SWB arm, you have extra useable holes with the 1-1/2" arm. They don't make a 1-1/4" arm. Personally, I like the extra mounting holes if I want to use the arm later for something else.

With the Air Wild, you are only provided one mounting hole in the arm. It's 1-1/4" center to center.

If you go with the JR aluminum arm, it will have the same dimensions and number of holes as the SWB arm, but be gold in color. Makes you wonder a little on that one.

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

SWB does make a 1 1/4 inch servo arm.

XLO-JOKER 08-25-2004 09:48 AM

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

naamanf is right, SWB DOES sell a 1 1/4" arm, Should I go with that? Or go with the 1 1/2"?

RE: WHAT SIZE SERVO ARMS?

I have both the SWB and Airwild arms in 1 1/4. I would go with the new SWB arms you can tighten in the 1 1/4 length. I have more than enough throw.

Your right, my error.

I posted the last around 2 in the morning after a long shift. My apologies for a muddled thought process.
