Li-poly batteries for receiver?

I know most people use Li-poly batteries for electric planes and Li-ion for receiver batteries. Is there any reason why you shouldn't use Li-poly batteries for receiver batteries in giant scale gas planes?

I belive the lipoly deliver high current discharge i guess.

Anyone ?

I don't think it would matter.. In fact Aircraft International is advertising this http://www.aircraftinternational.com...2800/index.htm ... It uses Li-Poly batteries. Of course you will need regulators if you use Li-poly. I think it's only a matter of time before people switch over, the flat design would make some radio installations easy.

Li-Poly's work without issue. The thing that concerns most is their fragile nature as compared to Li-Ion in this enviroment.

Poly is wrapped in a mylar semi soft housing and is susceptible punctures.
Poly has no provisions for venting the cells.
Poly power tabs are fragile and must be secured or assembled in such a fashion to prevent fracture form the vibration of gassers.

Thermal runaway is a possibility and since there is no vent, I'd suggest you remove them from the model while charging as a precaution.

All that said, many people are using them. Modelbau and Emcotec offer specially assembled Li-Poly cells with housings and charge protection circuits built-in for our needs.

You could use them, But if they are in a high vibration environment, it might do damage to the LI-POLY battery. Why not Lithium Ion? I know Fromeco sells them real cheap, and they are awesome!

From what I have been told is that the tabs will fatigue from vibration. I hear ThunderPower is working on this but no idea when something would be available.

I used these in my 50cc wild hare edge 540 and in the plastic case they are very tough and easy to fasten in with velcro and remove and with a smartfly they offer 10,000 ma of redundant power.

I use them in all my fuel planes. Some are small 2 cells and some are bigger 3 cells.

I have had Lipo battery tabs break but never in a aircraft. If I really beat the living C_ _ P out of my RC truck it is possible that the battery tab/circuit board will shatter.

I can not imagine that a aircraft would be able to damage one unless you lawn dart it.

the biggest reason i don't use Lipos, they can cause a fire when recharging, you have to remove them from plane to do so.and they are just to to fragile as already said.
it is safer, better and easier to use A123's

Man, you dug up a 6 year old thread????? I'm impressed except that you used it just to proffer your personal choice of battery, things have changed in 6 years; can you say "A123"?
