Tunnel Vision
I've done a search here and cannot come up with any more info than what is on chiphyde.com, which is not very much. I presume its not available yet. When will it be and what would the best power plant be for it? I cannot belive there isnt ANY threads on it yet. (Atleast I cannot find any)

No one is interested in this bird?

RE: Tunnel Vision
I don't think the plane is in the U.S. yet. Call Chip, I talked to him this week so I think he is still in town. I think this plane would be awsume with a Hacker 50?

RE: Tunnel Vision
I'm waiting for this one too. I submitted the winning name, so I get one free.

RE: Tunnel Vision
I phoned Chip Hyde Models from here in the UK and was told they will ba available in about 6 weeks and you can put your name on the waiting list now if you wish.
I have a 35Mb video of the electric version but can not find the thread where it came from.

RE: Tunnel Vision
These planes are on the assembly line at this time. I am getting the planes in this week for the Contest winners and some for reviews and for writing the manuel. I have flown it bothe ways and it is a blast. The OS 1.6 on a moose can muffler is the hot ticket for glow, and the Hacker C5013xl is the one I have in the Electric Version

Jerry Smith is making the Moose can version I believe

RE: Tunnel Vision
Hi Brutus 122
What do you think of your Tunnel Vision ?

Any pics ?

BRUTUS122 06-20-2005 07:13 PM

RE: Tunnel Vision
My TV hasn't arrived yet. I talked to someone at the shop a couple of weeks ago (it may have been Chip himself) , mine was on a boat somewhere at that time. I can wait patiently for any plane that is free. If I had paid for it, I might be upset.:D

RE: Tunnel Vision
Hi Brutus122
You must have your Tunnel Vision by now, how's it going ?

BRUTUS122 07-24-2005 09:12 PM

RE: Tunnel Vision
Still don't have it yet. Been thinking about giving Chip another call.

RE: Tunnel Vision
I was the other contest winner...My TV just arrived today, and it looks absolutely amazing. I've never seen an arf of this quality before, not a single wrinkle in the covering. And this thing is huge, I didn't even have enough space in my dorm room to test fit the parts together. Anyways I'll post pics as soon as I get home from work.

Tanks so much for the sweeet plane chip!

RE: Tunnel Vision
I had a great big box waiting for me when I got home today too!

This thing looks SCHWEEET!!!!

Thanks Chip

Here's some pick of the tv. The shocky shows how big this thing is. Now I just need to figure out how I'm gonna come up with the money to get this thing flying.

hutt 08-15-2005 06:01 PM

RE: Tunnel Vision
Looks great, a real giant shock-flyer.
Does the model come with options for electric and IC power ?

There seems to be a difference between your TV and the one in this pic, yours seems to have a lower wing position. Has there been design change ?

IHTFP_RC 08-15-2005 07:53 PM

RE: Tunnel Vision

no change in the design i just layed all the parts out on the floor, hence the "low" wing mount. Here's what it looks like with the wings in the proper position

RE: Tunnel Vision
The website recomends a ic 2 or 4 stroke between 1.6-1.8 ci, and the one flown in the video had a hacker c50xl on a 10s lipo. I personally dislike large glo engines (electrics are so clean and convenient) but I dont have 1k to drop on the hacker setup. So I'm looking at evolutions 35cc gas burner, but I dont know if thats too much or not enough engine. Does anyone know of an electric setup comparable to the hacker, but cheaper?

Maudib 08-16-2005 07:02 AM

RE: Tunnel Vision
I doubt you'll come up with a satisfactory electric setup that costs much less than the hacker setup.

On the setup...

I have had mine up and flying for the last few weeks. (Chip asked me to put together the manual, such as it is - located here: [link=http://www.chiphyde.com/files/manuals/tunnelvision.pdf]TVision Manual[/link]

Hope you find it useful. If you find any errors or something unclear... please let me knowso we can update the manual.

First the TV is awesome. Very light in the air and the O.S. 1.60 has beau coup power. I am using a tuned pipe and am less than 800 ft. asl.

It was a quick and easy build. In order to make things clear, the TV was designed to accept anything from light 2 stroke glow engines like the O.S. 1.60FX to Electric power solutions all the way up to 35cc+ gas engines. In order to provide such a range of power options and still be able to balance, you need to make decisions pretty much from the get go as to battery location and rudder servo seup.

If using the OS 1.60 FX, you will need to put at least the battery up in the nose as shown in the balancing section of the manual. It's an easy setup.

You may also need to place the rudder servo in the alternate position at the rear of the "canopy". These two things should provide you with the absolute lightest setup and balance perfectly with the 1.60 FX and stock mufler.

With the tuned pipe I was able to place the rudder servo in the tail location.

A 35cc gas engine like the Roto allows you to place the receiver battery in the wing and rudder servo in the tail. You can either strap your ignition battery to the side of the nose or use a similar method of placing it in the fuse at the nose.

The O.S. 1.60 can be finicky getting it's fuel.... you can either use one of the pump/regulator systems or simply setup a header tank. (Chip's recommendation)

You get an extra 2 oz of fuel and a consistent supply of fuel to the engine. I used the APC 18x6 Wide FunFly prop. What a hoot.

DO be careful picking the plane up when built. The framework above and below the center section of the fuse is built of with stick balsa and grabbing it in these places can easily result in some crsushed sticks. It's very well but lightly built... treat it as such.

RE: Tunnel Vision
Hi Maudib
I was considering the new Saito FA220 Single for this model, is vibration likely to be a problem with this profile, it does not look possible to use a soft mount.

Maudib 08-16-2005 07:50 AM

RE: Tunnel Vision
Vibration won't be an issue. the airframe is well built and is based on liteply fuse sides from nose to tail. THis ties in all the strength you'll ever need.

If it'll take gassers it'll take the New Saito 2.20... the 2.20 should prove to be an awesome engine for this airframe.

RE: Tunnel Vision
hutt, did you ever get the TV going with the Saito 2.20?
