Pull Pull Cable Crimps
What is a effective method of crimping pull pull cables without overstressing or damaging the cable? Is there a special tool? Please any advice...

I loop mine once and crimp them twice with the needle nose pliers.. If your cable is teflon coated(or similar) the cables wont be harmed.. Here is a pic of my edge though my loop could have been smaller.. I know there are specialized pliers for crimping similar to what we use for fishing rigs but I don't have any..

You can get a crimper from most Walmart stores in the fishing section. Safe Flying! |
RE: Pull Pull Cable Crimps
I use an electrical terminal crimping tool. I've seen them for sale everywhere, either have yellow or orange grips, wire strippers built in. It has radiused/curved recesses to crimp terminal ends onto wires.

As mentioned loop through one time and back again and crimp. I use crimpers for non-insulated electircal connectors. The fishing tackle guys use essentially the same thing. Home Depot, Lowes and others have crimper-wire stripper combination tools.

RE: Pull Pull Cable Crimps
Some cables will only pass thru the supplied ferrules twice- thru and back
not to worry - use ONLY nylon coated cables - Berkeley Steelon Leader is easily the most popular - I crimp using Vice Grip pliers you can imprint the cable thru a copper or thin steel ferrule. Never had these slip -even using 2, 8611A servos (80 lb test leader) |
RE: Pull Pull Cable Crimps
I am looped through only once like Dick suggest. I just lightly sand the snds of the cable with 400 before crimping, and I crimp in such a way as to spread the cables away from each other and I crimp top and bottom. Then, I wick some thin CA in just for good measure...no problems yet.

RE: Pull Pull Cable Crimps
Im able to pass the wire thur the ferrit 3 times then crimp with vise-grips.
I Really dont see what C/A is going to do for this:eek: |
CA will absolutely help the wire stay in the crimp. Anyone who has ever taken a pull-pull cable apart to change it out knows this because you cant hardly get that CA OFF OF THE CABLES NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY...... It absolutely helps!!!!
