What are some of you guys opinions that have used these servos for a 40% model.
What stands out to me is the Titanuim gears.
Thanks

Hey Badge. These puppies are $115 each. You have a box full of them? Did you get them wholesale?

No I buy em when they are on sale at either servo city or donald's hobby web sites.

I have 8 5995 and aam receiving another 4 for my 37.5% Yak. I run them straight off a 2-cell Li-Ion. This way 2 5995 have about the same power as 3 8611A. I get mine at Donald's Hobby, you don't have to buy very many from Donald to get the price down to where it's very favorable, and Donald is great to deal with and very responsive to inquiries.

You runs these 5955 without regs?Fully charged 2 cell packs can approach 8 volts. Don't those servos overheat. I know they've got heat sinks, but I think Hitec advises against doing that. .

5955 - best servo out there right now... programmable, no gear slop.. perfect centering... they are expensive though... never thought I'd see the day where I would be saying "I bought the 8611 to save $$".. !
I paid $80 each for my last batch of 8611s (I bought 25 at one time for several projects + some friends wanted 'em.. )

If you re-read my post, you may notice that I said I have the 5995s.

DKjens,
Just so you know, the 5955 and 5995 have the exact same motor in them. The only reason the 5995 is rated at 7v is because it is intended for robot use. Hitec does not recommend 7v useage in airplanes for either one of these servos.
I believe the JR 8611 servo is even using the same motor, just different gears.

RE: HS 5955s opinions

Jim,
I've read/heard the same thing. I just think Hitec is covering their ***** by not recommending the 5955 be run on 7.2V, because some idiot modeler would think that running a single 5955 on 7.2V (420 ozin) on each aileron on a 40% would be fine.

Wow, i have been running 7.2v for all these years, i guess it works because i never told the servo's. (2 cell Li-Poly)

I had 8611's in my 40% carden extra and after 30 flight i had terrible gear slop to the point i had to dial down my expo.Took them all out and replaced with 5955's and after 70 or more flights not even a hint of gear slop and the plane flew totally different and actually had to run more expo than i did before the 8611's got sloppy.I would highly recommend these servos unless you want to keep sending in the JR's to get new gears(which is free and only takes about 3 weeks during the summer time, and if you don't have a spare set your not flying!).

I have been running Hitec servos for a long time, looking to use the new 5955's in my 34% Extra. The greatest thing about it is that I can get them for $117.00 Canadian, up here in Canada. Also get a discount if I buy 4 or more:D

Hi DKjens

Do you use the same 7.2V on the receiver too? and what brand?

DKjens 11-11-2005 11:38 AM

RE: HS 5955s opinions

Y N C,
I use a Smart Fly Power Expander, which regulates the power to the Rx down to about 5V. Since my throttle servo is not a 5995, I will run that straight from the Rx, not from the PE, and probably just put a choke in the servo lead. According to Darrin though, it seems other servo should be able to take the voltage (7-8V) too.

Thanks DKjens

I have heard that the Hitec receivers can take up to 10V of power, or is it 10amps? not sure. but has anybody use 7.4V li-po on receiver?
