Hangar 9 Sukhoi
I need advise on design of a pull-pull system for the Hangar 9 Sukhoi. Dualservos need to be well forward of the original location. Pictures would be nice, but any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

Rudder Servos
1 Attachment(s)
Here are the rudder servos in my H9 Suk. The bell crank is from Creek Hobbies and is a very nice piece. It is all Al. with the tiller arm on a ball bearing. I had this exact set up on my first H9 Suk and it worked great. The rudder had plenty to pull through a knife edge loop. The servos used are JR 8411's.

engine placement.
Could someone measure the distance from cowl to the firewall.
I am trying to mount the engine and looking for step out distance for engine installation. Please tell me where your c.g. is also. Last I heard it was 13/16ths. Thanks Rich |
Hang 9 Sukhoi Engine Placement

What Engine are you using? The CG that I'm Flying my Hang 9
Sukhoi at, is 1/4 inch behind the wing tube. Even With the CG this far back it still flies like a big kittycat. JR 10X 3W100 Engine All servos DS 8411 except throttle DS 8231 |

Jerry,
Turns out I have the 3w-75. Couldn't pass up the price. give me an Idea how far forward the 3w-100 engine is. I am mounting the cowl about 1/8" over the edge of front former. but I'de like to now approx. how far the engine needs to be. I'm thinking 7" from firewall to back of the prop hub. I really enjoyed the vinyl work. Will you post the torque rolling picture? Thanks Rich |
3W Engine Placement
My 3W 100 installation, measurement, from the firewall to the prop backplate hub is 7 3/4" My Cowl is also mounted the same. The measurement from the firewall to the front of my cowl mounted is 7 3/8" this gave me 1/2" clearance from the back or the prop to the cowl on the right side and a little over 3/4" on the left because of the right hand thrust This Plane was tail Heavy Even with the 3W100 up Front I had to keep everything as far forward as possible. I even have the battery for the 4 Ail. servos on top of the engine box under the cowl outside the fuselage it is a 2300 6volt ni cad pack!!!

Engine mounting dims
I just got my Suk this week and was measuring the dimensions from the cowl lip to firewall. ....6.75" is the farthest I would go on the cowl mounting, with efforts to keep it from flopping around under vibration. So... 7" to spinner back plate looks like the sweet spot without changing the firewall. I might stretch the standoffs further with my light 80cc single for a spinner backplate of 1" to 1.25" past the cowl lip as it looks acceptable these days to add some clearance for better prop pull forward of the radial cowl. Nobody seems to notice a performance difference but hey....with that wing tube placement at slightly less than 1/4 of the wing chord, it's got to help reduce the nose lead somewhat since that CG's in that "general" vicinity. You folks with the Zenoah twin got it soooo nice...just bolt it on to the firewall with "already installed" blind nuts.

Cowl mounting
I have had no problems with my cowl mounted this far forward. Even after 30 some flights, cowl just like the day I mounted it. with the 3W 100 for power I can hover and torque roll with the throttle 4 to 5 clicks above an Idle. Awsome flight performance. The Key Word Here is Throttle Management!!!

Jerry,
Any pics of the engine mt? Did you use dowl or aluminum? upon doing some measurementts looks as if I need to stand off 1 3/4" to a max of 2". Will a 1" dia. dowl do the job? Rich |

Re: Re: Engine mounting dims
Originally posted by japan3d But it still don't balance on the wing tube without 18oz of lead. The correct location is behind the tube now. I dont know how far but the H9 announcement is on here somehwere. |

Wayne,
Can I use 1" dowl to stand off the engine? 1.75" in length to 2 " Rich |

Sure.
Use a 1" hardwood dowel drilled through the center and cut to the lenght you need. This is a pic of the Hardwood stand-offs on my 29% AW Edge. |

Verry Nice. Thank you Rich |

Wayne,
I'm 30min west of chicago. 20 min from rosemont, where you may have gone to RICHTA show. 30 Min from St charles and Fox Valley r/c. Give you an Idea where I am? Rich |
Cannister Muffler
Hi fellows,
Can anyone in this thread help me determine weather I can fit a " In Fuselage Cannister muffler in the H9 Sukhoi " ? I have one in the H9 1/3 Cap. The motor sits high with respect to the bottom of the fuselage in the Cap , and the length from the wing tube to the front of the firewall allows the cannister to fit. I need to know the length from the wing tube to the firewall and height from the bottom of the engine box to the bottom of the fuselage in the Sukhoi. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks , Bland |
Hangar 9 Sukhoi
I am having one built in Mo. By Brian H. I'll let you know how it comes out. I am leaving the design to him and just writing the check. I am getting it for the 3w-75. If you wish next week after confirming with him progress I can get back to you.

Yeah. Your about two hours from me.
Ever come down here for any of our events? We are deciding tonight when our big bird will be this year. I will let you know. |
Hangar 9 Sukhoi
I have a young daughter which has curtailed my ability to travel. I'm a stay at home dad so I can go no where with out her. She was hit on a beautiful afternoon while flying w/me.
A older r/c pilot had miss programed his radio kill switch. It was set for full throttle. The prop hit her in the foot sitting on a stool next to me on the flight line behind the safety fence. She is ok now but I am just able to got to local fields. She doesn't like to go with Daddy any more. Rich |
Hangar 9 Sukhoi
Oh wow.
Glad she is ok.. I take my 4 year old sometimes but she just likes to play in the sand box out there. No interest in the planes... |
