This is the new Jamara 330L its being offered in :
1400mm span for 61
1900mm span for 45 gas
2600mm span for 100 gas

It has a fibregalss fus and built up wings, the elevator servos are under moulded covers at the rear so are the aileron servos, the wing and stab are plug in and looking at the manual it would be easy to install a canister silencer box under the engine box, I am quite excited about this new offering, will be going to Al's models in the near furture as there web site says they have them. The finish is airbrushed and under lacquer.

EDIT: Oh yes on Al's web site its under £250.00 for the 1900mm version.

No one seems to be interested in this new offering, is there a problem with Jamara ARTF's?

I have ordered one of these, supposed to arrive on Thursday 9th November 2006 once it has arrived will post pics on delivary and packaging.

It seems this ARTF is made by Minicraft and packaged and distributed by Jamara and CML.

Mike

EDIT: added manufactures pics from the J Perkins site CMPro ARTF section.

Nitro's offering looks very similar to yours.
A few years back, Jamara's selection of planes didn't receive rave reviews.

Even the same pic's I am sure therefore the airframe is the same one manufactured by Minicraft, its just the distributor thats different.

Less than 12 hrs after ordering its arrived good old Parcleforce (GPO), the finnish is supurb, OK there are a few dust pimples under the lacquer coat but only noticable under a harsh light would not be noticable under daylight conditions.

The pin hinges are of very good quality but I have never seen the likes of the horn incorperated with them as the pic shows. Packaging was very good no transport marks at all everything was double wrapped the ailerons and elevators are in with the wings and tail but again seperately wraped in soft material so no chaffing between them.

The only questionable thing in the kit at the moment is the 2mm pushrods for the elevators and ailerons, they will be changed to 3 or maybe 4mm carbon rods, nylon clevisis's supplied will be discarded for ball joints, the cowl and fus has more than enough room for a cannister can not understand why it was not constructed with one in mind.

More later Mike

EDIT: forgott to mention all the hinge points are ready drilled in both surfaces will certainly speed up construction, one of the holes in the aileron had a roll of paper in it, presumably to cover the hole whilst being sprayed or lacquered.

Those pin hinges with control rods look sweet.

Should make assembly easier... I wonder if anyone sells them...

Adam sorry to take your name in vein Terry.

I agree they look nice, if only they were no going on a 50cc petrol plane, I don't think I will be using them, I may have to destroy one too see how tough they are, they only saving grace of them is they are light. Any thoughts out there?

RE: Jamara 330L

It's the same CMP ARF that is sold through several different distributors. AK models is another one that stocks it. Seems like a very well built ARF. In my experience, CMP ARFs are of good quality. There were a few earlier ARFs that could've been designed a bit better, but later ones like this 80" Extra and the new green Giles 202 seem much better.

The fiberglass fuselage is rare at this scale. I've had the Yak 54 73" wingspan, which is even smaller and had a beautiful fiberglass fuse. It was at bit heavy at about 14lbs with an MVVS 1.60 glow engine. I'll be curious to know what is the weight of this 80" Extra. Do you have a good scale you can weight the empty airframe?

BaldEagel 11-08-2006 05:44 PM

RE: Jamara 330L

I also have the Yak 54 with the fibregalss fus, I agree its a good plane mine is not heavy but then its the small one not the one you have.

Yes I have a very good digital scale and will weighy everything tomorrow but for a taster the bare fus is 3.25Lb now that is light, very light, one thing I have just noticed there is no provision for installation of the rudder servo? no formers, no rails nothing, supposidly to enable you to postion the rudder servo to suit the weight of your engine, or am I being too kind to CMP?

RE: Jamara 330L

Weights now taken of bare units as supplied.

Canopy and frame 169grms
Cowl 193grms
UC without wheels 151grms
Fus 1465grms
Rt stabiliser with elevator 125 with hinges
Lft 129
Rudder 54gms
Wing tube carbon 55gms
Rt wing 485
Lft wing 513
Tail tube 15

Total 3354gms

Using 28gms/onz = 119.785onz = 7.4866Lb

Now I think that is light? it looks as though this will work out to under 15Lb in total, well under 7Kg anyway, under 3lb engine say 1lb for the cannister and manifold, ancillaries say 3lb have I fogotten anything?

The tailplane of this model is not removable it is supposed to be epoxyed to the fus after installing the ali stab tube, I have a Gator adjustable plug in stab set and will be installing that to allow the tail to be removable and adjustable for incidence.

That is very light. I think the Yak 54 72" almost weigh that much. Under 15lbs RTF sound very doable. Composite construction typically shows its benefits more at the larger scale.

I agree on the "no former" is better. The builder can always add reinforcement trusses if he feels the need. Plus it allows the rudder servo to be placed where ever suits the particular install with only the necessary bracketry and weight added. Unless you use a very lightweight engine, you'll probably put the servos in the rear anyhow. I really like the rear hatches. That was one feature I wish they had done with the Yak.

What engine are you planning on using?

At first I was thinking of putting my MVVS 58 Pro in this model, but as I realise the light weight this is going to come in at I have changed my mind and am going to use the MVVS 45 Magnezium instead, as the front of the Extra is a flat glass bulkhead I am going to re-build the motor box to accept the MVVS Isolation mount, I have been wanting to use this ever since I got it, but have never found a plane with a wide enough bulkhead to accomadate it, see pic below.

Pics below show the intended motor box with the back support too the right, this is supposed to be bolted through the bulkhead into blind nusts and the box on the left is too be screwed and glued to that.

Second pic shows the MVVS 45 mag with the isolation spreaders installed showing more than adequate space required for instalation, I will have to make a new larger motor box to accomadate the isolation mount.

Pic three shows the miss aligniment of the elevator hinges, so contrary to my previous thoughts having the holes pre drilled will not speed up the process, the elevators are the same colour on both sides but even swapping sides made no difference, I will check the wings next.

Mike

EDIT: One thing I have not said is that in Europe this model only costs £239.00 that converts using 1.8$ too the £ at $430.2 now that is good value no matter what fittings are supplied, the combined horns and hinges supplied I have decided to use as they are under 25% of the weight of the Dubro replacements I would have used, I can always change them if needed in the future. I am trying to keep the weight down as much as possible.

A few pics to show:

Temp stand offs showing distance to front of cowl, leaves room for the manifold.

Second pic shows approx postion of cannister inside fus.

Have to start building the motor box to accomadate the Iso mount.

Pics showing motor box, on the front elevation you can just make out the 2 washers supplied to accomadate the 2deg side thrust on the right of the pic and the extention to the mount to put the ignition modual on.

Side view shows the manifold.

Bald Eagle,
You're right, they are identical just sold under a different name and the plane is trully beatiful. It's a relief that I crashed into you because man.. you really know what you're doing with these modifications, I don't!! Keep those pictures coming in I need all the help I can get. What cannister are you using? Thanks a lot for the help. Keep us newbbies posted with anymore advice you can give.

Welcome aboard, the cannister is a MTW 75K with a zero drop manifold, been a bit busy today so will post more pics tomorrow as I complete the engine box and install same on the bulkhead.

Terry

I am full of it your right:D well thats what my current wife says, I keep teling her she is only the current one. I am not ignoring you, its just my paranoia returning rearing up again.:D

Look tomorrow as I progress the installation of the engine.

Terry,
by no means am I ignoring anyone out there thas the last thing I want to do..believe me.I' just amazed at how little I know about 1/4 scale and gassers. I really want to use the manifold and cannister but I've never done it before. I've seen the put file with the 2 different exhaust systems on the same engine( mvvs 45 ), as much as I dont want to, installing an incowl exhaust looks so much easier. I'm really confused. I dont want to make stupid mistakes and not have the wanted results. I'm really paying attention to you guys. Keep those pictures and step by step instructions coming in. Tkanks a million!!!!!!

Terry was refering to me on the ignoring comment, its a joke carried over from another thread, not directed at you so relax. :D

The difference between the in cowl and cannister is definatly worth doing, I am making this whole thing more complicated than if needs to be because I am putting the Isolation mount on this plane as well, this means making a new engine box which I will post a pic of some time later today, using the kit supplied box will make the whole thing easier, I will look into this and see what needs to be done for you, hopefully today, keep watching.

Photo one shews the original engine box with the MVVS 45 in place, photo two shews the mods needed to fit the engine in black and the extended holes for the mixture screws, I would suggest that an aluminium angle is bolted in place behind the bulkhead to increase the rigidity of the front and to give some material for the bolts to bear up against, also a few carbon tows around the outside of the box at the engine mounting plate would not go amiss.

Third photo shews the new motor box beside the original for a size comparison note ali angles and tiangular reinforcements.

Mike

EDIT: one other thing when you mount the MVVS the thrust lines on the motor box will not apply anymore as they are set for a DA50 or similar, do it this way up end the fus and stand it on the tail before you attach the rudder prefably, attach engine to mounting box and place on the front bulkhead, put front cowl on too the plane and adjust motor position to suit the front opening, without moving the engine remove the cowl and mark position of the engine box, then proceed as the manual, the hole for the cannister muffler needs to be drilled prior to fitting the engine box, if you are using the MTW 75K the hole needs to be 75 too 80mm in dia in line with the engine exhast outlet for a zero drop manifold, this will allow the cannister to fit over the top of the UC formers and in front of the wing spar tube.

Hope this helps, please ask if you require more information.

Mike
