I used the stock tubing (I only buy the DuBro conversion stopper) it's 1/8" I believe... has worked very well so far....

No Hatch latch mod on this one... it would need two one each side... it's just HUGE... it's designed to use just two screws near the back... and there are nice hardwood blocks in place so there won't be any issues with aligning them...


What's the CF and clevis method?

Wait til you SEE tis thing it is GORGEOUS! I mean a smile came on my face and it won't come off... :)

The cowl has reinforcement squares already in place... CF weave I think...

I think I'll just flat primer black mine out...

Ya know... once I deck this thing out... I might just wanna do something with the scale parts... that spat are NOTHING in weight... ANd the fairigns aren;t that bad...

SO heck... maybe I'll go witht eh CF gear and put on the goodies... :) Though the fairings won't quite slide all the way up the CF gear... Maybe I'll have a set made up a little narrower or the ones JRJohn is looking into will work off the bat.

Once I get the plane assembled... I'll be hitting the deisng station to mkae this thing sing like NO other ARF on the market (Heck it pretty much does that on it's own)

The stock gear works really well because it has some flex. It has saved my Yak on 2 occasions, once from a 12 foot fall directly onto the gear. The gear bent, but nothing broke. The gear have a long moment arm and I'm afraid that a real stiff CF gear won't be nearly as forgiving. The gear mount in the Yak is as close to bullet proof as you can get, with the aluminum angle brackets mounting to 1/2 inch ply.
The stock gear provides a good mix of weight, flexibility and scale appearance and just may save your plane. Plus replacements are fairly cheap. Something to consider.

I agree... especially if I can only save a couple oz for $60!!!! Now 6 oz would make me think again... after all... I fly for crap but I land REAL good... ;)

I totally intend on putting the stock aluminum gear on mine... in fact I already have... :)

I did notcie the holes for the axles are drilled like 1/4"... pretty small for most axles bases... I started with 1/4" and stepped up 4 times to a 5/16 drill bit (which is what the DuBro 3/16 and 5/32 axles require) 1/4", 17/64", 9/32", 19/64" then 5/16".

Axles and wheels are now installed.

THe top of the gear are already drilled, but you need to align the gear onto the plate and then drill through the plate and through internal aluminum angle brackets.

This is a good idea because it doesn't take much to get pre-drilled holes out of whack at a factory... I prefer to drill my own, but it's nice the gear are already drilled...

Wanted to let you guys know too that no decals are included with the aircraft... something this big deserves the quality stuff and everyone will want something different (until they see mine tee hee)

I did order in carbon fiber, Cherry Red Prismatic and already have the "bling"... plus black, red, etc...

I already have most RC logos... EF, DA, Brillelli, JR, HiTec, Futaba, Spektrum, Smart-Fly, Fromeco, etc... SO once I get a chance to come up with some custom stuff... feel free to contact me via PM for any ideas you might for your own...

I figured some folks might use the Klett 3/16" axles which have a very small axle base, so the hole in the gear is small.

O.K., dropped the template on the firewall and drilled for the Brilleli 60...

The cowl SWALLOWS this engine! (Like we expected) :)

It's hard to tell fromthe pics... but there is a full 1" between the velocity stack and the cowl side... and about 3/4" below the spark plug...

SO there MAY or MAY NOT be a need for a slot to be a slot made for the spark plug boot... The DA50 stock muffler I'm using will only need a hole for the stack cut... nothing for the can itself...

I'm starting to think the fake louvers aren;t such a bad idea... :)

Have you heard any input from Scott E. or Aerobob about fuel burn with the 366GT? Will 16oz be enough for a 14-15min flight or should I use a 20oz tank?

It's official... I will no longer be applying G-Glue to the hingepoints.. just in the hole (I used to do both).

Two reasons...

1) Less foam comes out near the knuckle (almost none actually) because the hinge pushes the glue into the hole, the hole doesn't scrape glue off the hinge

2) 5 different tests doing it that way either busted the hingepoint at the knuckle trying to pull it out... or I simply didn't have enough strength to pull it out myself.

(the loose end of the hingpoint in a vise... and me pulling the wood away from the hinge)

Awsome...

So now the steps will be:

Swap the holes of the trailing edge and the surface with a wet q-tip

Start with the trailing edge of a surface and apply a couple drops to each hole with a bamboo skewer poking and twirling it so it's fully coated the hole
Insert hingepoint that has had the knuckle dipped in melted vaseline

Then glue up the surface holes and slide it onto the hinges...

Tape the suface in place...

Occasionally wiping any foaming away and flexing the surface to make sure the hinges remain free...

I just spoke with Scott at Brillelli... eh said he thought maybe a 20 oz tank would be better... he will test it at 3/4 throttle...

My DA50's run 20 mins+ for sure... but 10cc's more...

He also said that pnce the spark plug boot is on there should still be 1/4" clearnace... meaning we mioght not have to cut for the sprak plus boot after all! :)

I know with my DA 50's I could fly about 13 min on a 16oz tank with about 1/4 left in reserve...Do we get a 20 or a 24oz tank ?

I would test it right away, but I have no 60's built right now. I sent the last 3 out to future EF Yak owners :) I do not think the 60 will use much more fuel than the DA 50 so I am betting it will be fine with a 16oz tank. I just would like to test it to be sure. Too many tasks, too little time !

I have a 16oz Dubro onhand, so I'll try a 20oz. But if the 20oz runtime is too long, I'll switch back to the 16oz rather than carrying around an excess amount of gas.

Also, I've experienced an appreciable increase in fuel burn when switching from an in cowl muffler to a tuned pipe setup on the same engine [sm=wink_smile.gif]

Here is the gear that will be on my 88" Yak. 6.6 OZ and without a doubt the best built, most stock looking gear I have ever seen. It's even airfoiled. They ain't cheap! Mine will be painted white as I'm getting the red and white plane. I suppose you guys with the black planes would just leave it black

I am pretty sure I fly 15-20 mins on a 24oz tank and usually have about 1/3 left.. but that is lots of full speed KE circles and rollers. I think you could get away with a 16oz tank.

ALl hinged... man it takes NO time when yo don't have to try and coat the actual hingepoints... which most of it gets scraped off by the hole anyway and into the bevel/knuckle for cleanup...

Much cleaner this way and faster... lovin' it!

Now if my ailerons go flying inthe air one day.....


Seriosuly... I think the plane will have to blow up before the surfaces come off...

When I bought mine it was 129.00 and worth every penny. They seem to be built the same way a CF prop is built. totally different than a Graphtech gear.

Looks Great, good info on the hinging!

I took some time off today and picked mine up (Ylw/Blk) as I only live 2hrs away. After missing out on the original I was determined to get one of these, unfortunately I'm so busy with our business' at the moment I won't get much time to play with it for a while.

Saw both the Ylw/Blk and the Wht/Red ones Chris has finished in the shop. WOW! These things are Huge, until you see one you won't believe it, it truely looks like a 33-35% plane. Both planes are absolutely beautiful. I think The Wht/Red looks alot nicer in Person and the Ylw/Blk is awesome.

I'm starting off with a DA-50 on mine and will go from there :D

I need to get out and do some flying before flying something this nice, nothing like showing up with something like this and not being able to fly it like it should be flown! My screen name should be 3D wannabe Aviator.

If anybody reading this is on the fence about getting one of these I would call and get one ordered before you miss out.

Those look real nice, Are they dimensionally about the same? Where did you get them?

SD models makes it. It's about 2 inches narower at the wheels. about 1 inch less tall, and the mounting base is within 1/4 inch in width. It looks and works great on the 95'' TOC Yak, it will be just about perfect on the 88'' EF yak as well. best part is, it's 6oz liter!
