ok guys i need some help im tryin to power a new plane and want to go four stroke i bought a os fs-56 towards the end of last season for my twist and love it. but have a huge delema i can get a great deal on a magnum from tower cause i have a 75 dollar gift cirt. but dont want to sacrafice reliability or proformance what do you gus think of the magnum vs the saito ? plz help

If you want an engine that will last forever, buy it once and get the Saito. Both are good engines but the Saito has been proven thousands of times over to out last anything else.

i was trying to make the same decision a while back. When it comes to reliability it seems as though the saito has the edge but not by much. Few people have had problems with the magnums and very few with the saito's. If you are battling a nose heavy plane the saito is the winner. I believe it is 5 or 6 ounces lighter if my memory serves right. The saito is also more powerful but not by a whole lot.

well $22 a gallon compaired to a gallon of gas that will last a lot longer and a motor that isn't so thursty, no decision. I would go with a Evolution or MVVS 1.8 or 2.15 for the same price and fly with something that will cost much less in the long run.

He was asking about glow 4 strokes. Had he been asking about tiny gassers I would have provided a completely different answer.

You can't forget the 3 year you get with the Saito. I think the Saito has a lot more power but the Mag is a good sport engine for the money and works each time. Dennis

a gasser would be cool but this is going on a 140-160 size air frame ether a twist 140 or an ultimate bipe from gp I’ll find out on Christmas morning but I want to keep it light and love the way my twist 40 runs on a four stroke. There is a hundred dollar difference between the saito and the magnum and if u read the specs other than a couple ounces of weight difference they are very similar in output so that brings me down to reliability and allot of what I HAVE read says that the saito may be a bit better but the magnum is a great motor. Also i HAVE read about allot of people having trouble with bearings in the saitos.

But you never hear about people that don't have trouble with bearings. It would't be fun to read nice things all the time. Dennis

I have the Saito 1.80 and I can tell you it's a great engine and after it gets broken in, it gets even better. The only problem with the Saito is the amount of fuel it drinks compared to the Magnum. I can get 10-12 minutes depending on how I fly with a 24 oz tank with a little left in the tank for emergencies.

There is another guy at our club who has the Magnum and his engine head broke off and ended up replacing the whole head.

If I were you, I would go with the Saito![sm=thumbs_up.gif]

If you need a 4 stroke, the Saito is a performer and if you lube the bearing with afterrun, it will last forever. If you still want performance and want to save some money, an OS 160 would be the better choice over the Magnum, especially if you get the Ultimate.
Wait!, if you get the Ultimate, put a DL50 on it! $390 and your'e good to go for power and it won't be too heavy for that plane. Ask anyone who has had a 25-27% Ultimate with a DA50 and it is a blast.
