Elevator servo

I will be laying up this weekend the first parts for my 25% Edge 540 fuselage so I am now looking ahead. I would like to get some feedback on elevator servos. This will weigh in around 9-1/2 pounds but I don’t yet know about if it will be nose or tail heavy. This will affect my decision on whether to use a single servo (HS-5945 digital 180 oz.) or twin servos in the tail (HS-645MG 133 oz. ea.) Any thoughts or comments?

25% Edge 540 vs 9-1/2 pounds??? What kit??? What engine???

How? I know if you go with the minimal 2-stroke engine and minimize your servo count (one servo for elevator) in a Hanger 9 25% Cap 232 you might get under 12lbs and that is only true if you install the servos in the conventional manner. If you install them in the tail you will need a heavy engine to offset the CG -- not in the plans if your looking for 9-1/2 pound 1/4-scale.

In any case, if you can afford placing the servos in the tail you'll have a much more positive responsive bird. If however, you don't have the expertise to take advantage of the enhanced responsive elevator using a single 1/4-scale servo installed in the conventional manner would be much cheaper.

It is my own design. I CNC machined the plug from a 3D file I drew up in Rhino and made the epoxy glass mold. (I run a Model Lab by the way with lot’s of fun toys at my disposal) 3 years ago I made a P-51 the same wing size and that’s all the weight it came out with a YS-91. This has a little more fuselage surface area but with the CAD calculations it still will be less than 10 pounds. 1 layer 4 oz and 1 layer of 6 oz, Kevlar reinforced around the stab and wing tube area.
That is my concern needing the weight of a heavier engine for the 2 servos. Thanks for the reply.

I have the 25% Aeroworks Edge that weighs 9 1/2 lbs. I imagine yours is the same size. I have 2 tail mounted servos for the elevator(Hitec 605's) and a Saito 150 up front with on board glow.

My onboard glow is mounted on the GG. I didn't have to add any weight to the plane.

Hope this is helpful.
